Question 1

Does anyone else have issues where the screen randomly goes black for a couple seconds then comes right back? It's not adjusting resolution or anything, I can already be playing a game and it will just go black randomly, and then come right back a few seconds later.

No, this sounds like a hardware issue with one of the following:
Monitor internal power supply
Cable between computer and monitor
Video card

You can test each one of these.  To test the monitor, disconnect it from the computer and instead hook it up to a blueray player or something via a good quality HDMI cable (not same as connected to computer), see if the issue occurs there.  If so RMA the monitor.

If the above doesn't occur then try using the good quality HDMI or DP cable connected to the computer.

Lastly, if you have another computer test the monitor on that video card or try a different monitor.

This is just a process of elimination, but then you will have a better idea where the problem lies.

Can someone tell me if there is a recommended video card for this monitor?

some one suggested they are unable to turn off the internal speakers. Can the speakers that are in this monitor be disabled? I don't want them on. any help will be appreciated

I have only had my 43" monitors in service for a few months, I never really gave any thought to the built in speakers as I listen to audio through an external set of speakers connected to the motherboards on board sound ports. 
After seeing this question, I checked the menu settings on the monitors and I do not see an option to disable the built in speakers. However I found the volume was set at 25% but I have never noticed any sound coming from the internal speakers?. I just now set them to 0% and an "X" appears indicating they are now muted (even though I did not hear them at 25% previously) To test, I just cranked the internal volume up to 75 % on my right side monitor and still no sound appears to be coming out of the monitors internal speakers.
Perhaps the computer recognizes that external speakers are connected and therefore is not sending an audio signal to the monitors?) (speculation)

Question 4

Just to clarify- the listed 60 Hz is at 4k resolution, not at 1080p or something, right? My last screen advertised 60 Hz but couldn't go above 30 when actually set to 4k.

Yes, it will run 60hz at 4K on two of the four HDMI ports and the DisplayPort inputs.  However, when on those HDMI ports there is a setting you need to turn on on the TV to allow 60hz.

What is the difference between the 43MU79, and the 43UD79-B? What makes this model $100 more expensive?

The only obvious difference I've seen between the 43MU79-B and the 43UD79-B is the warranty period. The former(this product) has a 3 year warranty and the latter a 1 year warranty.

No FreeSync. I have this monitor.  Originally early this year, LG announced it would have FreeSync, but the actual released product does not. Neither does the LG 43UD79-B model (which is actually identical to this 43MU79-B model, as per LG except for the warranty period).

Can this be wall mounted? VESA mount will work?? What other wall mount options are there?

Yes this can be... per the LG website on this model, this product has a 200x200 vesa mounting, which can seen there is some mounting by the removable back cover given in the pictures.
