You will need to use some of the parts from your drive that you are removing.  I am not familiar with your computer but be sure that the SATA cables will connect.  Most older ones will not work with this drive.  If it is a late model it sould be SATA.

the drive is 10mm thick. the one in my Toshiba tecra was 9.5 mm thick  and it doesn't fit.  how old is the  computer you are putting it into?. I think the newer computers are using an ultra slim drive

I have an ASUS S550CA ultrabook.  Will this LG Blu Ray drive for Notebooks be compatible and fit in the same spot s the current dvd drive?

The drive itself should fit but you might have to remove the front plate on the old drive and put it on the new one. You'll have to remove the brackets/clips from the old drive and put them on the new one. I'd take the back cover off the laptop first and compare the shape of the drive with the LG. I believe Asus uses LG burners in their laptops, so it might fit without removing the front plate. The interface is a combo SATA_Power connector, which is standard with new laptops.

NO, this LG slim drive DOES NOT fit a Dell Inspiron 17-7746 Laptop because the drive height of 12.7mm is too tall. Instead, try the LG BU20N Ultra Slim drive which is 9.5mm tall from Newegg here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZX2F82538 You will need to remove the faceplate of your existing DVD drive and clip it to the new Blu-Ray drive tray for proper fit. Blu-Ray playback software is not included but your Dell may or may not have that installed.

Is this drive compatible with Sony Vaio VPCF1 Series? I have a Matshita BD-MLT IJ240AS that has gone out on me twice...My Sony warranty has expired, must buy a new drive.

All the laptops that came with DVDs or Blu-Ray drives are pretty much all standard size, you'll most likely have to change the face plate of the drive, much care must be taken as not to break any plastic parts. You should look for a You Tube video that matches your laptop model for a visual reference. Things to watch for 1) make sure the drives connect the same SAT or IDE, if the laptop was made in the last five years you should be alright, 2) I have heard that some mini laptops have used a defferent special size drive. Remember to search for a good You Tube video, if you are mechanically inclined and take your time you should be OK, there are a lot of screws to remove and reinstall, I suggest using a magnetic tray help keep them in order, Good Luck.

I doubt seriously that it will fit any ideapad it would not fit the y500. Only the Panasonic uj242 will fit and are hard to find

If you already have a DVD, chances are yes, to be sure, you need to remove your DVD player, and make sure its this form standard.

actually i just did a quick google search, yes it is, you need to replace the front panel on this just like any drive swap, but if you are careful thats not hard, just goto youtube and search "Laptop dvd front panel replace"

Hey Charles, there appear to be two Ultra-bay slim slots, one being 9.5mm and 12.7mm in height. This drive is 12.7mm high. I did a search for "think-pad Serial Ultra-bay Slim Slot" in yah00_c0m and chose a len0v0 support l1nk. The l1nk took me to a 9.5mm drive and had a link to a 12.7 drive. The site shows hardware compatibility.

can this product be used in a standard full size slot without beefing up the slot to fill in space?

I don't think this will work. A normal drive's rails might not support this drive, and there will definitely be extra vertical space that looks bad. It seems like you're better off buying a standard-sized BluRay drive. You'll have a better selection with better prices.
