There are now M-Disc blu-ray discs (blank media) available.  This drive is listed as capable of burning DVD-format M-Discs. Will this burner burn Blu-ray format M-Discs?

I actually purchased this recorder for this very purpose, to burn the new M-Disc blu-ray discs, and I'm afraid it will not. I purchased a Samsung SE-506BB external USB that does burn the new M-Disc blu-ray discs.

Also, you can get a compatible list of burners by going to the mdisc website and then go to FAQ at the bottom of their homepage and then click on: How Do I Use it?. Then their will be a link for a list of compatible drives.

User reviews for this product are very confusing. Some say it burns Blu-Ray discs OK, others say you have to purchase an upgrade in order to burn Blu-Ray. Some say it works OK on a USB 2.0 port, others say you need 2two USB ports or you need a USB 3.0 port to provide enough power. Can someone please clarify?
1. Does the included software allow you to burn a Blu-Ray disc or do you need to pay extra to upgrade the software?
2. Does it work OK when connected to a standard USB 2.0 port?

You don't need an upgrade in order to burn blu-rays. At the bottom of this blu-ray disc, the rating is 5V @ 1.6A. The player will read using one USB port (nominally 500mA). For the full functionality, i.e. blu-ray burning functions, two USB ports are required to provide power (1.6A is a max rating, that could be instantaneous). Burning CDs will operate with just one port.

The included software, titled the "Super Multi Blue Install Disc", allows you to burn blu-rays. This contains PowerDVD 3D, LG Burning Tool, Power2Go, PowerProducer, MediaShow, MediaEspresso, and USBFast.

As stated above, the discs will read with one USB port.

Is this only for playback or does it burn as well, and if so is it blu-ray burning capable?

Hi, yes this does burn blu-rays as well as playback. I have burned 5 blu-ray discs in it so far without any issues. The blu-rays I have burned are Optical Quantum BD-R brand.

The manufacturer only lists up to Windows 7, has no driver listing for Windows 8.

hi i purchase this product i got mac is it compatible or not ? and other thing is i install it on mac which is bootable it ask to register with 30 digit code i dont have that code from where i have to take that code it dosent appear on cd aswell
