it can read, write(which is the same as burning), and re-write DVDs and CDs. it can only read blu ray.

are there drivers for windows 10 for this? or do i just plug it in and i can put a cd or a movie in if i have something like windows media player?

This drive requires no additional driver software to work in windows 10, to play music CDs, or read data stored on CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray discs. It does require additional software to play back DVD and Blu-Ray movies, but this is true of any Blu-Ray or DVD drive.

Pretty much any SATA cable. SATA1, SATA2 and SATA3 cables will all work.

Can this be mounted vertically, ie, does the disc snap in or just lay in?

The drive can be mounted and operated vertically.  Yes, the disc just lays in, but there are tiny 'ears' that keep it from falling out.

LG's website says that this drive does not write to Blu-Ray. In fact, the specifications here also suggest is does not write to Blu-Ray. Yet the overview clearly states that it does write to Blu-Ray. Please correct this or you will have some angry customers, Newegg?

This is a "combo drive". Which means, it reads Blu-ray, but can also read and write DVDs and CDs.

It says it only supports up to Windows 8.1 – By chance, does it have driver support/update for Windows 10?

Yes, it works on Win10, I just used it to install Win10 and still works fine.

How Noisy is it?

I have had this drive for a while.  I do not hear this drive when it is reading discs like movies or copying small bits of data.  If I am burning a disc or copying a large file the disc will spin up to full speed and it gets loud like many drives at full speed.

Right now, 1-16-17, this product has an offer that it comes with 10 blank blue-ray disks. Why would they be offering blank media for a drive that can't even write to that media?

That's a great question.  I suppose they assume you can use the media on a different writer... Otherwise you are correct, this offer doesn't make very much sense.
