Overall Review: Burns DVD's, CDRW's and DVD RW's just fine Burning BlueRay now data only Didn't get to watch movies but it ripped a BluRay movie with DVD Fab just fine. Came with the software disc but haven't used any of it. Some of the software is 6 years old. For only a few more bucks than a reader I got this number. It's OK but nothing to rave about or give 5 stars to. If you want an entry level BUDGET blu ray this is it but I think saving your peso's to buy another might be the way to go Would not buy this model again or recommend

Overall Review: These drives need to get down to 50 bucks or less. The media needs to drop to less than a dollar each for a 50GB disc, just one disc I'm talking about here. Sony needs to lower their royalties on this stuff A LOT apparently. And the disc encryption needs to be lightened up quite a bit, or just gotten rid of. Hackers can hack it, nothing will ever be completely unhackable. Remove DMA and just let us enjoy our purchesed content. Mostly though Sony, LOWER THESE PRICES!!!!!!

Pros: Was looking for an inexpensive blu ray burner. I wanted my workstation to be able to handle any and all formats I could throw at it - all BD-Rs, DVD-Rs, CD-Rs, SD cards, flash cards, you name it - only format missing was BD-R. I was not about to pony up twice the price for the brand I usually use. This one gets the job done and it's blazing fast. Setup was pretty painless - I took out the old drive I was using, changed the SATA cables and installed the new instantly. I can burn a full 600MB standard CD in 2 minutes. a full 4GB DVD in five minutes, and a full 25GB BD-R in about 20. Haven't had any coasters yet but I'll definitely be on the lookout for them.

Cons: It's just a barebones drive - no SATA cables, screws, or playback software included - you're pretty much on your own there. I have a Nero license that was included with my DVD burner so that's no big deal there, but not having playback software - and you know how expensive that is - certainly doesn't help. It's also a bit loud during burning discs, I don't know how it is playing back blu ray movies yet - I won't get a chance to test that for quite a while.

Overall Review: Other than the lack of software it's a pretty nice drive for the price. Pros: Works with Windows7 64bit OS. Wrote some DVD's, and CD's very quickly. Playes Bluray discs just fine. Haven't burned a BD yet. Is pretty quite. The Lightscribe feature is pretty amazing. I converted some VHS over to DVD for someone and they came out amazingly with custom etchings.

Cons: Have to flip the disc over to Lightscribe it, but I knew that already.

Overall Review: As noted by other reviewers, and I will correct my previous review, it is a current drive, but is only listed on their commerical site. As of yet, I can find no firmware update for this drive. The included software suite does work for an LG drive if installed properly. It's basically the same disc that comes with the Lite-On drives, but loads specifically for LG drives. As long as you do the basic install, it will work and play Blu Ray discs in Vista 32/64 bit. Not sure about Windows 7 though. If you feel you have to buy a separate software player, one of the best and cheapest is Roxio CinePlayer which is reasonably priced and works in Windows 7. Unfortunately, nothing is truly free anymore, which is why Microsoft includes no player in Windows Media center for Blu Rays. Good Luck

Pros: To one of the reviewers who complained on "slow" DVD writing. First off, this is - as of today, one of the fastest BD Writers (certainly in its price range). Here's a fact however: As new optical formats came into play, new drives were forced to read/write not only newest/most advanced media, but also old. So an engineer can either design around having multiple laser diodes or around a single laser to read/write different media - but optimize for the latest media. In plain English: To your surprise a DVD Writer COULD (not always but possible) be slower with CD's than DVD's, likewise a BD Writer might be optimized for BD media and only secondly for DVD and even less for CD. It is optimized for BD, ok? LG is often "under the hood" of other manufacturers who rebrand OEM disk drives & sell under a name of, e.g. HP or others. In reality drive itself is an LG, as of Hitachi - they're being acquired by WesternDigital.

Overall Review: There're only a handful major Optical Storage manufacturers - so when you see something like "HP BD Writer", it is almost always somebody's else's drive rebranded/repackaged by HP or by others. Now, if you look at what exactly drive is under the hood - it's often LG or Samsung. Likewise, for LCD displays there're only a few makers and they're being rebranded by MANY MORE other companies as their own (LG also happens to be in LCD's market). This unit is well-done & CHEAP for its performance. Stop complaining on DVD writing speed, it is like complaining on DVD Writer being slow with CD's - it's because the Laser is optimized for a certain disk format, in this case for BD, not DVD even though it DOES read/write DVD & CD jalong with BD's. Those drives which have multiple lasers & are speed monsters, don't cost $99 like this one ok? Bottom line, I don't even see anything significantly faster than this LG model#, anyway, multiple or single laser - not much competition.

Pros: Fast Glossy Worked great when I had it

Cons: Bought three, first one died within the first 2-3 months of usage, second one went into a PC at work and died as well. Still waiting to see if the third one dies as well. It ran well when I owned it, but the reliability of these drives is terrible, I would understand if I got it defective, but two drives with the same problem, purchased entirely different times....disappointment.

Pros: Fast rips & burns. Averaging about 12 minutes to burn approximately 20GB using 8x BD-R (BD-25) discs. ImgBurn reports show most burns start at 4.3x and ramp to max of 8.8x - averaging 6.7x - again, this is with 8x media so very acceptable results. Made about 10 Blu-ray discs so far - all play perfectly on my Sony Blu-ray player. Quiet - I'm using it in a desktop PC, but I would consider it for a Home Theater PC.

Cons: None. Face of drive is shiny - some might not like that against a matte-black case, but I think it looks good in my Antec 902.

Overall Review: This is a Hitachi-LG drive. Firmware update utility is located on the included CD under \CDS\ZLG_FW_Update. Utility installed & seemed to run properly for me, but reported no firmware update as available yet.
