Does this play 4K movies providing the CPU, Motherboard, video card and monitor are HDCP ready and 4K compatible along with the included Cyberlink Software? Thanks

Accepted Answer

Yes, but you'll have to run the HDMI cable from the HDMI port on your motherboard to the monitor.  Also, make sure you are running the 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor and grab the latest version of PowerDVD if necessary.

Question 2

Does this come with any SATA cables? I see reviews that say it is ready to go out of the box but then there are others saying that there are no cables included, so what is it?

I got one of these back in May, so my memory isn't exactly reliable.  But, near as I can recall, it didn't come with any cables.  I didn't ship in any kind of dedicated box, so I think it was just a plain vanilla box.  No labels from LG, etc.  This makes me think it just shipped with the drive and the software disc.  Now, I could be wrong about that, though.

What is the Firmware Version on Label for LG WH16NS60?

Mine shipped with firmware 1.01 and according to the web site ImgBurn checks for firmware updates, there are no revisions available for this drive.  Hope this helps!

average noise level?

As with any BD drive, at lower read/write speeds (about 16-24x) the drive is fairly quiet.  While reading UHD blu rays, it can sometimes make a "clicking" sound while trying to find tracks, but that is normal.  At higher read speeds (32x, 64x and higher) the drive definitely gets louder, but I only barely notice it over the sound of my case fans... I don't have a dB meter to check for you, but I would say its just as loud/quiet as any other BD drive I have owned in the past.  Hope that helps!

can this ultra HD burner , burn in ultra and play it on my LGTV ?

I would say playback depends on whether your Blu-Ray player supports playing UltraHD discs or not.  As far as I know, the only thing you really need an UltraHD capable drive of is that it supports triple layer and quad layer BD for the sheer size of UltraHD BD movie discs.  So, if you made an UltraHD movie burned with this drive, it would be up to the player you're using to be capable of reading in triple/quad layer recordable Blu-Rays.

I don't know this for certain, though, as I didn't get this drive for UltraHD BD capabilities.  I only got it because it fixed the double layer failures of writing to BD that were present in the WH16NS40.

It looks like a bare drive,does it come with factory sealed in original retail box?

Near as I remember, it comes wrapped in plastic bubble wrap inside a plain, nondescript cardboard box.  Whether it came from LG that way or whether it's just an OEM drive that NewEgg put in its own cardboard box, I couldn't say.

If you choose the one with that says "with Cyberlink Software" .. I did not use this version since I had a newer version. Be aware, you need at least a 7th Generation Intel i-7 (like the 7700k) . You have to play the movie through the onboard video port, you cannot use a GPU (Nvidia , Amd) ... I have an Intel 8700k with 32gb Ram ..  You can download a PC "readiness" tool for 4k from Cyberlinks website. I recommend this... Playing 4k is not as easy as they want you to believe. you have to have everything perfect.

i see a lot of people saying you need an I7 7th gen to get it to work anyone know if it would work on computer with amd cpu like the 3600?

This drive is 4k UHD compatible to play 4K movies the problem is you cannot play 4k movies through your installed GPU on Windows 10 PC you have to have an HDMI connection directly on your motherboard and it has to support Intel SGX extensions. Its probably better to just buy a 4K movie player

Is there really a difference between the UltraHD WH16NS40 and the regular WH16NS40?

There is a WH(14)NS40 that has a max spin of 14x, there is a WH(16)NS40 that has a max spin of 16x, which these drives are UHD Friendly, and then there is WH(16)NS60 which has a max spin of 16x and is an UHD Official drive. You can Google UHD Friendly vs UHD Official to learn more about that mess. You will eventually find yourself learning about the different firmware versions. I would recommend getting the WH16NS60 drive with the original 1.00 firmware from eBay! ;-)
