is the harddrive cage removable?

It is removable. I have used this case on two builds and have taken the cage out both times. I will say that on my first build the cage came out pretty easily, the second case I used I had to push a pull quite a bit. If you move it around the right way you can get to the screws on the top of the case and take it apart which makes removing it easier.
