VGA signals are analog and DVI signals are digital, correct?  Don't you need a separate D/A or A/D converter to use this?

DVI-I interfaces carry *both* analog and digital signals.  As long as your graphics card supports DVI-I you can connect a VGA monitor using this adapter.  Search Wikipedia for "Digital Visual Interface" for technical details.

Question 2

Hi. I'm trying to link up two VGA monitors to my computer so that I can use them both at the same time. I have a port at the back of my computer that complements this adaptor (i.e. a DVI-I port). I also have a splitter cable splitting male VGA into two female VGAs (if you search for "vgaspl1vv" on this website then you can see a picture of it). My monitors can plug into this splitter, which can in turn plug into the back of this adaptor, which should in turn fit my computer port. Will this effectively allow me to use two monitors or am I missing something here? Thanks

If you feed both monitors by splitting the DVI port you can have 2 monitors, but each will display the same desktop.  To expand your desktop like I think you are wanting you must install a video card into a PCI slot which has a VGA and a DVI port.  This adapter will allow you to have 2 VGA monitors instead of one VGA and one DVI.

If you are not gaming you can use an EVGA GeForce 210, but gamers  will need something like a EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2765-KR GeForce GTX 760.

I have a AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB graphics card and it has 1 VGA, 1 DVI, and 1HDMI plug. If I plug this adapter into my DVI slot, it should give me another working VGA slot, correct?  For some reason it won't work that way. Any suggestions on why it wont work or how to fix this issue? Thanks for your time!

Could you perhaps check if it is inserted and locked properly? Or is it because you are trying to connect the graphics card to a multiple number of displays. Sometimes your system or graphics card cannot support such a function. You should check out what it supports.

I just wanted clarification on this product to make sure that this is indeed a DVI-I (24+5 pin) to VGA (HD15). That this is NOT "DVI-A?"The reviews put me off a little and I just wanted to make sure I'm making the right purchase. If not can someone direct me to the right one. Thanks.

I may not be of much help. I purchased this item one year ago, not knowing I already had three, and now I don't know which of the four I ordered from Newegg. But one of them looks just like the one pictured except it's molding is clear plastic, not gray. But the labeling and 24+5 pins are the same. On the bottom side it has the word "WIESON" molded in the plastic.

I just ordered and picked up a product that said DVI to VGA adapter and it actually was a DVI-A to VGA adapter. Is this adapter plain DVI??

Yes, plug it into the video card on your computer and then use the vga adapter on the dvi to adapt your cord to use with the vga plug on the monitor.
