once i config it, i wont have to hard wire anything i use to it right ?

I didn't have to.  The install instructions were easy and my computer found it easily enough.  I then moved it to another part of the house and it has been working great.  I have not been disappointed.

Question 2

I have one of these already connected to my Linksys wireless router.  Can I use another one on the same router?

You could but I wouldn't recommend it.  An extender actually halves your bandwidth to those devices connected to it because it has to send a receive on the same pipe.  You would be better off with Linksys PLWK400 Wireless-N Wi-Fi Extender Kit.  This has the benefit of acting like another wireless access point but connected via a wire (in this case your power line) to your primary wireless router.  I have two of these in my home (one on each end) with my wireless router in the middle and  it works great.

Question 3

I have a yacht that is just out of range of the house wifi. Additionally I have satellite (dish) on the boat as well that needs a network cable to be able to order pay per views and such.I am thinking of adding one of these to the house to extend the range to the boat and another on the boat to be able to run a network cable to the sat. control box to give it internet access. Will this work or not?

Yes, one of these will work for you as an extension of your wireless signal but only if your RE2000 Extender can be located correctly.

Your extender for best performance will have to be positioned where the wireless signal of your router or access point is reliably strong (at least 60% strength).  This is not a weatherproof device so it cannot be installed outside.

Here is what Linksys says about using more than one RE2000.
FAQ 6. Can I add more than one RE2000 to my existing wireless network?
Yes.  But since the RE2000 only gets the wireless signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders.

You will need to use a wireless bridge on your boat like the Linksys WET54G to connect a network cable to your satellite equipment.

Question 4

I have a Dell desktop w/out wireless capability.  Will this device provide initial wireless capability in addition to range extension?

Accepted Answer

No!  This device simply extends the range of your existing wireless signal.  It has two channels and permits two SSID's to be extended.

If your laptop does not have wireless capability and you want to use it wirelessly either at home or at a location that has WiFi, you need to first invest in a USB based wireless dongle to be plugged into your laptop to make it wireless compatible.  Then, at your residence, you'll need to install a internet/network gateway (router) that has wireless capability built in.

Or, you could go to a wireless cell phone provider like T-Mobile or Verizon and subscribe to their service and they will provide the wireless dongle.  Both charge a monthly fee for their service of somewhere around $60 per month, but you then have internet access anywhere you have cell phone access.    T

Question 5

I have cabling to the area where I want to extend my 2.4 coverage. I would like to use that wire for better speeds. I would still like to use a uniform (same) SSID. There is a high density of 2.4 devices in the area already and I would like to minimize extra traffic and would prefer to not create a mesh network as such. Can this unit do such?

I used this item for a while but there were issues. This will give you  two wi-fi signals on your house or business. It is limited as to the distance it will reach as well. If you have your regular wi-fi transmitter located in one end of your house and the signal just won't quite reach the other end, this may do the job with a simple, quick fix. But for us, in a larger commercial setting, it just wasn't what we needed and eventually called in an IT company who installed a repeater system that works well.

2.  Could this device extend a "hotspot" signal?
