I have a Linksys Wireless-G Router model: WRT54G2. I need to extend the range of it, is this the best choice? Also to confirm this extender does not need to be hardwired into the router. Thanks, Vance.

Accepted Answer

This will work to extend the range, granted you will be able to connect with AC devices, the speed will be reduced to G speed due to the origin router. The extender plugs into the wall and requires no hard wire and is setup via a web interface. It DOES have a CAT5 plug on the bottom as well for adding other hard wire devices.

What is the range (feet) gained by the device?  I need 250-300 Feet5?

I have not really used it out pass my property. In my back yard it works fine,full bars . I would say at least 230 feet from where I have it in my kitchen.Ive never thought about trying it out beyond my property , but I,m going to check now . Thanks Chuck !

After setup and extender is connected to your router log into router and get connected devices list. The full Mac address is listed.

Question 4

I'm considering buying this for a three story house with the router in the basement.  I've used cheaper extenders before and found that I needed one on each floor (maybe due to materials used in building the house).  If I should need to use two of these to meet my coverage needs, is there any conflict with using more than one?

If you can move the router to the middle flour or the top floor if possible . Having the router in the basement is not an ideal place to have it and can limit the range greatly so if you can move it to one of the other floors it will work a lot better. Most likley you will only need one of the RE6700 range extenders and should cover all the floors perfectly. Good Luck !

My Linksys RE6700 range extender will not work. I have a D-Link router model DIR-655. What do I need to do?

I think that your router is a N band  only . The RA6700 is a dual band range extender and might not work with your router. Not completley sure though . I would look into that at Linksys trouble shooting .
