Good workhorse if you replace the firmware 8/17/2014 4:17:52 PM

Pros: This has been my router for five years now, and I have no plans to replace it.

This router can be made very reliable if you replace the firmware with TomatoUSB or DDWRT. You really cant do without this. Don't use the linksys firmware. I never have to reset the router and it maintains optimum speeds.

The wireless signal is decent for a small to medium size home.

I was able to get my wired devices working at 1 gigabit LAN speeds by connecting a gigabit switch to it. Any devices connected to that switch will have gigabit speeds when transferring files, and that is a LOT cheaper than replacing your trusty old WRT160 with an overkill "does it all" kind of router that they're churning out these days.

Cons: If you use the linksys firmware, expect a nightmare router that needs to be reset daily, especially after a few years of use. You can thankfully eliminate this issue by replacing your firmware with TomatoUSB or DDWRT.

Overall Review: Overall, I am pleased with the reliability and effectiveness of this router after replacing the firmware and adding a gigabit switch. I should be able to get a few more years of use out of it.

Good Hardware 7/18/2014 4:23:08 PM

Pros: The router hardware is great.

Cons: The factory firmware is awful.

Overall Review: a quick upgrade using DD-WRT unlocks the true potential of this device.

Reliable for Quite a While! 9/18/2012 4:11:16 PM

Pros: - Reliable.
- Easy to customize.
- Works with a number of different bands.
- Firmware updates are a snap!

Cons: - Not enough Port Forwarding slots for hardcore gamers.
- Takes a while to find the internet connection after the modem resets. (This can be circumvented by manually releasing/renewing your connection, however.
- Becomes randomly unreliable after four years of use.

Overall Review: Now, I know that things tend to wear out after a while, but I can't recall a piece of hardware I've ever owned which, one day after four years of constant use, just randomly decides to stop working properly, but doesn't appear to be doing so.
As of the last couple days, it's stopped allowing access to and from the modem, see, but according to the router itself, everything is working perfectly fine. Yesterday, I sat there for a good 40 minutes waiting for the Internet to come back up. When it did it again later in the day, I reset my router/modem setup, which fixed the problem. When it did it AGAIN later that night, I just released/renewed my IP address and bam, I had internet again. What kind of hardware does that?

Still, it served us quite well for four years. Maybe a bit longer. So I can honestly say we got our money's worth from it.

Good solid router 2/13/2012 6:03:47 PM

Pros: I've had this router for about 4 years, reliable, solid connection, good speeds, perfect for everyday home use.

Cons: The WiFi sync button is kind of a pain if you need to use it (especially if router is upstairs).

Overall Review: Maybe I just got lucky and had a good one that didn't drop my signal.

Beware 8/1/2011 10:47:47 AM

Pros: 2 out of the 5 I bought works

Cons: 3 out of the 5 I bought did not work

Overall Review: In my quest to find a decent router at a decent price I bought a batch of 5 of these. Only 2 worked. The other three would either not hand out ip's or would not access the internet. I tried numerous factory resets and firmware upgrades but couldn't make anything happen. I guess it is true what they say, you get what you pay for.

USE TOMATO USB 7/22/2011 1:52:24 AM

Pros: Amazing router. For all that are using ver 1, 1.1 and 3 and want a stable router I suggest installing Tomato USB. If you are familiar with the other very good DD-WRT then you will have no trouble with tomato. Tomato is a lot easier to use for beginners and it is very similar in performance with DD-WRT. Tomato uses different wireless drivers which means no wireless drops on the v3!!!

Cons: None

Overall Review: Use DD-WRT micro to flash first and then put Tomato USB on it, you will not regret it for sure. Like I said before, NO WIRELESS DROPS!
