Linksys WRT160N Wireless Broadband Router 802.11b/g/n up to 300Mbps/ 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Works like a charm with DD-WRT. Couldn't ask for more.

Cons: Don't think the stock firmware is very good, then again, no stock firmware i've ever used has been as good as dd-wrt.

Overall Review: Throughput of 130mbits, tested at around 60-70 mbits from 2 rooms away. Can't complain.

Pros: Looks slick, cool blue indicator lights. Can take DD-WRT firmware.

Cons: Stock firmware can be a little buggy, lack of options. New Linksys/Cisco shell design is no good for stacking. No option for external antennas.

Overall Review: For those that have the patience, loading an alternative firmware is well worth the effort. I am running a desktop, file/media server, and Netflix streaming through a Wii -- no complaints.

Pros: wired works

Cons: wireless keeps dropping. upgraded firmware no joy. I don't bother with tech support (for anything not just linksys) anymore since it is off shore and you cannot understand what they are saying. Been fighting with these routers for too long because I bought them when they were $75. Now I am giving up and looking for a better solution for Draft N.

Overall Review: firmware 3.0.0 on 1 will not talk to 3.0.02 on other. Tried to download firmware again to get 3.0.03 but it keeps canceling the download.

Pros: This router is epic with DD-WRT firmware, for under $50 you get a great piece of hardware with Wireless N, MIMO, a 300MHz processor, 32MB RAM, and great DD-WRT support. I recommended this for our school robotics team and after a great DD-WRT install I bought one for myself. I have configured it in AP (access point), Client, Client Bridge, Repeater, and Repeater Bridge modes and it works great in all of them. With the Client Bridge or Repeater Bridge modes you can use this router as a network extender to connect Ethernet and WiFi devices to another router. I have a WRT160N v1 configured as AP, with this v3 unit configured as a client bridge. With both in the same room I was getting 6-8MB/s transfer speeds from PC to PC (for reference, wired 10/100 Ethernet can hit 10-12MB/s while 54g usually gets 2-3). Not bad at all. At $45 you would be hard pressed to find a better deal than this!

Cons: The stock firmware is apparently bad. I don't know, I only used it to upload the DD-WRT firmware which is much better regardless. On my WRT160N v1 (we have had this router for 2 years) the stock firmware would drop connections often, but after flashing DD-WRT (which I did a few days after buying it) it has been rock solid for those 2 years, no dropped connections and no lockups. I would assume the same for the v3.

Overall Review: I bought this because I wanted a nice router with DD-WRT to take to school. Having the WRT160N v1 at home I figured it would be a good choice and I found a great deal here on Newegg (the v1 cost $90 when we got it). DD-WRT isn't hard at all to install, just download a DD-WRT build that is specifically for the WRT160n V3 (as of Nov. 2010 it isn't incorporated into the generic branch yet) and upload it using the stock firmware's upgrade menu. The router will reboot and when you log back in it will be DD-WRT. Another interesting thing to note, the v1 has the Linksys logo in the center and the Cisco logo at the bottom (like the product image) but the v3 units I've seen have the Cisco logo in the center and the Linksys logo at the bottom.

Pros: Interface is easy to use. Sale price of $50 is reasonable however, The old wrt54g is as good for less $$.

Cons: On sale the price vs performance seemed extraordinary. However, even when paired with the same brand matching model adaptor in an OPEN ROOM with out obstructions I only get 2mb per second throughput. My client has a 150 MB Quickbook file and it takes over 1.5 minutes to open- each change takes almost as long to record/refresh page. This is unacceptable performance. The old WRT54g paired with usb adapters worked as well or better in same location! I altered the encryption from WPA2 to WEP 64 no change. Selected N-only, changed from 2.4ghz to 5k no change. Finally had to run ethernet cable to get acceptable performance. Now with 100mb/s ethernet cable the QB files open almost instantly.

Overall Review: Don't upsell your clients and promise any speed gains with this unit- it's no better than a standard G router.

Pros: Beautiful design. When updated the firmeware is stable.

Cons: Out of the box, this is an awful product. It worked for the first five minutes, after that it all went downhill. When online and updated the firmware and still no luck. Once I typed the SSID and password manually on both laptops, haven't had any issues since.

Overall Review: I haven't tried DD-WRT. I probably will because I've heard that you can tweak the range. That's something that I am not happy with; the range is the same as my old Netgear router.

Pros: Love this router extremely fast. got wireless internet all over my house. This baby packed with a core 2 extreme gaming copmuter and u will anhilate the competition love this router.

Cons: not what so ever.

Pros: works like a charm. pretty much PNP. did not use the included CD for install. i configured the routers settings and was up and running within 20 minutes.

Cons: only gripe about changing certain settings is that the router has to be rebooted before moving on to the next setup tab.
