Will this unit work on a hp a6763w desktop computer. with 5.59 bias? Will I need extra hardware like software and cables to install.

Yes it will work, you will need a SATA cable but you should be able to use the one that was attached to the DVD drive that came with the computer.  If this is a second drive then you will need to go and buy a SATA cable.  These are very cheap and can be found most anywhere that sells computer hardware.  You will not need any software, the computer will recognize and load drivers when you install and boot up.

If you're not a muggle, once you install it, you can edit the registry to allow it to read European disks. If you've never used regedit, forget it.

No, keith it will NOT, it is for a sata hook-up, google you a search for a IDE DVD Drive or look on Amazon for one.

The new DVD Duplicators all use SATA Also.

it does not have a usb connection on this model it has a sata cable connector and a sata power connection from power supply if your apple has sata cd dvd rom drive now it will work, if not look for an external model with usb

ROM stands for Read-Only Memory. It's a holdover from the days when CD drives on PCs first came out. The CDs like the windows installs were called CD-ROMs because you couldn't write to them.

as long as it has sata... i think this is sata 3 so to get the full speed i would make sure the motherboard and the hd match up in terms of performance... as in sata 1 2 3
