2nd time around. 7/23/2009 8:28:30 AM

Pros: it's working so far.

Cons: the first one I had to return after a 4 month use. NEVER BUY LITEON!

Overall Review: just hoping the 2nd one doesn't brake. during RMA return the newegg service person tried to rip me off and tell me I could not replace the product, I expected better from newegg.

Poor drive + Poor support = 2 eggs 7/12/2009 12:36:14 AM

Pros: None really.

Cons: It can burn CD's and DVD's. However, while other machines can (so far) read burned DVDs, I tried 5 times, with Sony and TDK disks, to burn a CD that would read in other machines, I finally got one to read by first creating an ".iso" file. I really don't know why it should have made ANY difference. If you're wondering, I ALWAYS burn at the lowest speed possible. It's a habit I got into 20 years ago when CDs were $5.00 each and I didn't need any more $5.00 coasters.

Overall Review: It's been a long time since i've had any problems buring a CD on major brand name disks (unless the whole lot was defective). This isn't the case here. When I used their live chat support, I got a canned answer that told me to read the instructions for PowerDVD. I told the idiot (if it was really a person) that I was using Nero Burning Rom and that THIS DRIVE is the only one giving me a problem.......but got no further response. So much for their "live support".

Also, theor retail version of the drive iHES206, as opposed to this one that is iHES106. The only difference being the iE206 has Lightscribe, while the iHES106 does not. Although they have firmware updates for the 206, they don't intend to do any further firmware updates for the 106-OEM. I guess I'm done with LiteOn, it's just not worth the hassle to save a few dollars from other major brands.

Don' Buy 6/30/2009 11:05:00 AM

Pros: Worked for ~2.5 months

Cons: Stopped working after 2.5 months

Overall Review: Contact Lite-On after some time and a bit of run around I recieved an RMA # and shipped the defective drive back at my own expense. Over a month went by and one day I recieved a call from Lite-On. It turns out this drive is discontinued (wonder why) and they would be sending me a new version. 3 more weeks went by and then about 10 minutes ago I had a knock at the door and my new drive is here. They replaced this model with iHES206-08. Specs are comperable but this one has Lite Scribe technology. If I have any difficulties witht he replacement I will update. Long story short, buy it if you are willing to be without a drive for weeks/months on end but eventually Lite-On's support will come through. This is the only reason for any stars at all.

Just No. 6/10/2009 2:42:45 PM

Pros: Quite cheap if by chance it works for you.

Cons: Tried 2 different ones in multiple machines, both read cd's and dvd's (Very very slowly) but they would not read a single one of my blue-ray movies. Every time I put any disc in them, it would slow up even my fastest quad cores dramatically for at least a full minute before deciding that my disc was blank. Lite-On does not support this model AT ALL on their site. No driver/firmware/software updates.

Overall Review: Newegg was very generous in letting me return both of myn for a refund.

As advertised 5/22/2009 6:46:37 AM

Pros: Good Value. Works great, no issues with playing commercial DVD's, Systems/Software install disk no issues either (VISTA Prem). Nice touch, although not pictured with the Newegg OEM listing, it also came with an ATA cable as well as CyberLink BD Solution Disk, making it ready to go right away. So far only DVD up-conversion used on my HDTV and picture was better then my other dedicated DVD player up-conversion. Shuttle G33G5 Pro, Radeon HD4670 HDMI.

Cons: None

Overall Review: 3rd build using LiteOn optical drives. Past experience very good, pretty much install and forget about 'em.

Follow Up 5/6/2009 6:47:32 PM

Pros: The First 2 months blu ray movies was awesome DVD capability sweet.

Cons: It is 3 months old and will not play a single Blu ray movie and I have tried contacting Lite On and they gave me the run around.

Overall Review: This drive is not worth buying because it will die after 3 months you can watch DVD and Burn DVDs but Blu Ray capability will quit working so it is not worth buying right now get a stand alone or a better name brand.

Works well 5/6/2009 2:18:56 PM

Pros: Affordable; plays Blu-ray; does what I need it to do.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I use this drive in my HTPC and it's worked fine. I was prepared for some setup problems since I was outfitting a basic PC with this drive along with new audio/video cards at the same time; it did take some tweaking. For blu-ray playback, I downloaded the necessary PowerDVD version (for FREE) and it worked perfectly. I may upgrade the playback software in the future but the free version of PowerDVD has worked fine for me so far.
