Still going strong for over 2 years2/20/2013 9:57:50 AM
Pros: Works with Windows 7 or 8 generic drivers, just plug it in.
Good low light performance (but not in dark room!)
Very good color in good light.
Crisp clear sound from built-in microphone.
Can swivel left and right.
Cons: USB cord is OK but would like to see all webcams have longer cords.
Overall Review: Right out of the box this webcam gives very good results. If you want all the gadget-y special effects and avatars you should install the rather large Logitech Webcam Software (LWS) .... but be sure to download the latest version from Logitech.com instead of using the CD that comes in the box. Separately, Logitech Vid software is a free high quality video chat program that provides very clear 720p video and sound even when others such as Windows Live Messenger or Skype are laggy or glitchy due to many people using them during peak times. Of course, you must have a steady, reliable high-speed internet connection to achieve this. Low-light compensation and noise-cancelling features work without installing any Logitech software; camera zoom is also available if you go into the camera settings window. If you want to make a higher quality 1080p recording at home (video chat online is limited to 720p) or require a stereo microphone then you will need a Logitech 900-series camera such as the C910 or higher model. Otherwise, this C525 should do fine for all other needs.
Pros: Crisp video and great frame rates.
Is much better than my built-in 1.3M laptop web cam.
Easy to mount on my laptop and has a nice swivel feature.
Cons: None that I've encountered.
Overall Review: I only performed a custom install, and just installed the drivers. I did not test out any of the software included with the web cam. I have only tested this out with Skype and it has performed very well. I have a laptop with a i7 Quad Core processor with 8GB of RAM, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I installed the latest drivers from Logitech's website and did not attempt to use the driver's on the CD that came with the web cam. It was easy to install and set up this web cam.
Pros: This thing absolutely blows away my old cheapo webcam. Very detailed pictures and great quality voice chat. I can't say much for the microphone as I've never made any real use if it because I have a desk mic, but it seems to work decently. Not as good as my desk mic, but not far off. Which is nice to know that I'll have a solid backup just waiting in the wings if something goes wrong with my desk mic.
I don't have the greatest internet connection, but the quality over things like skype seemed unaffected from the higher quality picture (as skype is limited in picture size unlike other voip)
Cons: Logitech software is clunky as usual. I'd rather have not installed it at all. (but you would lose some of the wacky effects and the ability to pan the camera a bit).
Overall Review: Great microphone for the price. Would buy again with no hesitation. Certainly worthy to be sitting atop my lcd.
Pros: Very clear, decent frame rate, great low-light performance, plug and play, fun software, fantastic microphone. Typical Logitech quality (very good) means it'll probably work for years and be supported in whatever version operating systems is out then.
Cons: none so far
Overall Review: It's amazing the difference between a cheap camera and a decent one. This is definitely a decent camera.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. No problems here. I previously had a cheap $20 webcam and had to turn on lots of lights to get decent video with any kind of frame rate. This cam, on the other hand, actually does pretty well just off the light from my monitor at night, and even with a small desk lamp does very well.
The microphone performance is great too; previously people couldn't hear me unless I had a mic fairly close to me. Now (on Google Hangouts) I just talk, even if I'm walking around the room, and everyone can hear me just fine.
The mounting system seemed a bit cheesy to me at first but honestly, it works great. It stays where I put it, and the ability to swivel back and forth is great. Previous cameras that I've had would fall off sometimes.
I'd buy one of these again in a second except I'd probably jump up to the 615 for another few bucks and get 1080p cap
Cons: The software is glitchy and very annoying. Specifically, the "follow my face" feature constantly zooms in and out at random, and viewers rightly complain about this. Also, enabling the "RightLight" feature often results in a black blank image.
Logitech really needs to get their developers to fix these bugs.
Pros: I just picked one up from best buy because I needed it so soon, sorry new egg didn't mean to rush.
10/10 works beautifully on a windows 7 64 bit
Oh and 720 to 1080p wouldn't make much of a difference because my internet is kind of slow at times and being shared with a lot of people so I like to use less data to maybe sure someone with a worse computer can see it okay.
Cons: 615 is $80 at best buy. I paid $59 for this, its $59 for the 615 on new egg on sale right now. No biggie I love it.
Overall Review: 10/10 some people might think it wouldn't stand ok on your monitor I think. I disagree I have a asus 24" and while its not a perfect snug fit because the sides are angled from behind and downward infront of you you just need to move the tripod back and it fits just fine on my monitor, the only reason I say this being my monitor didn't look like it would fit at first and I was very disappointing but with a little brain juice its fine on a wobbly stand even. It doesn't look like it would be but I'm surprised.
Pros: Works with Windows 7 or 8 generic drivers, just plug it in. Good low light performance (but not in dark room!) Very good color in good light. Crisp clear sound from built-in microphone. Can swivel left and right.
