Do the speakers plug into a normal computer headphone jack? Also can they be hooked up to a monitor?

These speakers are compatible with any standard headphone jack. As for hooking them up to a monitor, the monitor would technically need 2 audio jacks, one for the IN and one for the OUT, as in you'd have to first plug an audio cable from your computer to the monitor's IN line, and then plug the speakers in to your monitor's OUT line. I don't know how many monitors have those cables, I supposed it could be done over HDMI as well, but usually you don't plug speakers into the monitor its self. Usually either the monitor has speakers and you just connect them to the computer, or you use your own set of speakers(like the ones here) and plug them directly in to the computer.

Is this system compatible with an ipod?

So I do not own an iPod specifically, so I can not test it, but I have no reason to think it would not work.

The jack is 3.5 mm which is the same type as standard headphones. So it will fit, unless your iPod has some kind of weird Apple specific headphone jack. (I tested it with my android phone which has a standard headphone jack and it worked just fine).

And just it case, don't forget the speakers still have to be plugged into an outlet for power so it is not portable.

I have very minimal desktop space. can you not use the subwoofer and just plug the smaller speakers in the desktop?

No, I believe the speakers plug into the subwoofer. However, if your neighbors don't mind, the optimal place for a subwoofer is the floor

The length of the wires connecting the two smaller speakers is approximately 5'.   It is a good length and the speaker system is worth the buy.

Do these speakers have an auxiliary input?  Like, could I play music on them off my iPod?

no there is no input jack. but you could do one of 2 things, 1st plug the line out directly to your phone or ipod, or you can buy one of those Bluetooth gadgets that turn any line in into a Bluetooth receiver. I bought this for my mom to put in the kitchen and bought a Bluetooth receiver that turns any speaker system into a Bluetooth receiver. works great

What are the physical dimensions of the subwoofer?  I am most interested in the width.

Mac compatible?

I haven't seen any Macs with an analog connector dedicated to audio, they tend to do internal speakers with their systems.  Of course it really depends on the model of Mac that you have.  I build gaming PC's and I can tell you that all the motherboards I use have analog audio out.  I would suggest calling a Mac rep or their customer service.  As far as software or apps, this model of speakers does not require any.

Does the volume control module have a microphone input as well? Does this work well with a headset which has a speaker and microphone plug that are closely connected? Thanks.

Unfortunatly the control does not have a mic input, just a headphone jack, so no, this would not be ideal for use with the headphone/mic cable set you are describing

On a desktop PC, you plug it into the green jack. On a laptop, you use the headphone jack. Try plugging it into your phone or iPod headphone jack - and if you have the same problem, return the speakers for a replacement...
