Technology for connectivity (Intel® VT-c) to deliver I/Ovirtualization and Quality of Service (QoS) featuresdesigned directly into the controller on the adapter. I/Ovirtualization advances network connectivity models usedin today’s servers to more efficient models by providingFlexible Port Partitioning (FPP), multiple Rx/Tx queues, andon- controller QoS functionality that can be used in bothvirtual and non-virtual server deployments. By taking advantage of the PCI-SIG SR-IOV specification, the adapter enables Flexible Port Partitioning (FPP). WithFPP, virtual controllers can be used by the Linux* hostdirectly and/or assigned to virtual machines. With this portpartitioning, administrators can create up to eightdedicated connections on a single Ethernet port for use inbare metal and virtualized server deployments.

In a bare-metal Linux server, host processes can beassigned to dedicated network resources to provide trafficisolation and balanced bandwidth allocation. In a virtualized environment, a VM can be assigned to avirtual controller to reduce the CPU overhead seen whenusing a software-based network bridge by offloadingnetwork traffic management to the controller.
