I dont see where u enter the card with chip?  Is it just swipe ?

This is only a reader to get the card info off of the mag-stripe into what ever software program you are using.

Is this reader EVM ready?

I purchased these for locations other than where I am located so I cannot look at one at the moment. 
However, I am pretty sure it does not have a spot to put the card so it can read the chip.
Because of the nature of our transactions, we have elected to not replace the readers. We will be using our online access for transactions.

Does this Swipe Reader have the capability of reading credit cards with EMV?

The reader is not equipped to handle EMV.  I believe the protocol for the "strip" part has not changed on EMV cards. Only the chip part will not work.  I run my EMV VISA through as a conventional VISA just fine.  Any dependence on the chip is not supported (i.e. swipe and then chip verification like I have seen some Point of Sales use).

2. Yes, it is clear text

The readers we have need to be replaced prior to October of this year as they do need to be encrypted.  I have heard these types of readers are not yet available in an encrypted form, but may be prior to October.  I am waiting until closer to that time.  Otherwise, we will need to obtain terminals instead.

Does this work for point of sale credit card transactions into windows based software?

I does for my business, but it all depends on the software you are using. Each software company is going to have different interfaces so one reader may work fine and another will not. My advice would be to contact the software company and ask them if this reader will work.

Will this work with a Mac?

This type of swiper is just like plugging in a usb keyboard.  It just reads and types out the information for you.  So yes, it will work on a mac.  I have also used it on Android tablets.

how do you enter the $ amount  I dont see numbers ?

It has a USB cable that connects with a Point of Sale. No keypad on the device. You need a program to communicate with it.

I have used a similar magtek device with serial connector (in line with a serial keyboard). Since this card reader emulates a keyboard output, can I install this separately with a keyboard?  Or do the reader and keyboard need to connect in line to avoid any confusion?

It doesn't have to go in line with the keyboard. Just plug it into any USB port and it will work even with a normal keyboard plugged into another USB port.
