Is the 0.01 g figure the accuracy, or the step the display moves in?
It is the step. The display reads in hundredths of a gram, and the normal error range either side of a true reading is 0.03 g. If readings drift over time, re-zero the scale against a calibration weight.
Does a calibration weight come with it?
No. The pack has the scale, a manual and two AAA batteries. A calibration weight is bought separately, and it is worth having because scales in this class drift with use and need re-zeroing.
Which weight units can it show?
Seven of them. Grams, grains, ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, carats and tael, changed with one press of the UNIT button. That covers kitchen work, coins and jewelry, reloading and gemstones.
How long before it switches itself off?
180 seconds of no activity. Three minutes is long enough to weigh several things one after another without the screen going dark between them, and it still saves the batteries when you walk away.
What happens if I put something heavier than 500 g on it?
The display shows O-Ld instead of a number. Take the weight off, turn the scale off and back on, and it returns to normal. The same warning appears if it gets knocked hard in transit.
