Overall Review: Keep in mind that I have only had this beast for 24 hours but I wanted to get a review out to help potential buyers.
I was looking to upgrade my 2 year old MSI Stealth and when this model was announced, I knew that it was a definite contender. While waiting for it to be released, I did a lot of research and found that the specs on this model were going to be nearly impossible to match. Super thin and light, a fantastic screen, and a full fledged RTX 2070 (not a Max-Q).
Reading reviews online is tough with a model like this. Most were pre-production or past models whereas, this model is much improved. I immediately added a 16GB GSkill 2666 DIMM as well as a secondary PCIe SSD- an HP 950. On one of the reviews I read, which looks like it came out of Europe and was pre-prod, featured an Intel 660 PCIe SSD. Fortunately, mine came with a much better Samsung MZ-VLB1T00 which is a PM-981. Much faster than the Intel. Doing the upgrades was easy and took less than 10 minutes. The screw sizes are different lengths so pay attention to where you are removing them from.
There is no webcam, and an external one was not packaged as you may find other reviews mentioned. In fact, really no accessories were included. I'm ok with this. For me, this PC is not a desktop replacement but instead a laptop that I can travel with and work and play on the road. If it were in fact a desktop replacement, I may have had to choose a different model- one that offered Thunderbolt 3 as this one does not as it would allow me more options for monitors and external graphics cards.
Anyways, I was able to install Overwatch and run through some tests. At 1920 x 1080, and Ultra detail, the laptop was averaging around 188 FPS. It was gorgeous. GPU temps were sitting between 82-83 degrees C which is hot but expected. This was on balanced mode. The fans get loud but not in an annoying sense. No coil whine whatsoever. With headphones, as I would normally play, it would be fine.
While just browsing the web or doing office tasks, the machine is nearly silent. The fans are audible, but just barely.
Anyways, I hope this review has helped. Overall, I am very satisfied in this laptop.
Pros: Thin, light, powerful, excellent screen, supports 4K external monitor.
Looks good, not crazy like some other laptops. If you change default color settings.
Boots in a few seconds.
Cracked open the case and added a 2TB second NVME M.2 SSD for total of 3TB.
I LIKE that there is no web cam. Head of CIA says he puts tape over all of his web cams and so do I.
Waiting on RAM stick to add another 16GB, First 16GB RAM is soldered to motherboard and cannot changed.
Do not miss rotating hard drives in any way.
Cons: ASUS does NOT understand that LESS IS MORE when it comes to bloatware.
There is all kinds of ASUS software and wacky services running in the background.
Default colors are garish, with the entire keyboard changing color all the time. But easy to switch to red.
Cooling system is well designed but with this much hardware and a 230W MASSIVE POWER BRICK this thing is GOING to run hot if you put it to work. CPU runs hotter than GPU.
Silent mode is not completely silent, and not OK for gaming.
Performance mode is OK for gaming.
Turbo mode noise is excessive.
Price is high, but you get a LOT of state of the art hardware.
Overall Review: I would recommend this to anyone who knows what they are doing with a PC and wants performance.
Pros: -Strong build
-Can open with one hand
-Nice and light
-Speakers are really nice
Cons: -Can get loud when playing games from fan speed
-Asus Aura not the best designed software (but it works)
-A bit more expensive than I would like, but defiantly worth the price
Overall Review: Buying this laptop was a hard choice for me because I am used to 17" laptops. My last was an MSI and I was very unhappy with the build quality and moving to this has been an amazing experience. I really enjoy how light it is and find this to be a great computer for my last year of college. One thing I miss is having a num pad but for all the other benefits I think it worth not having one. This is a great computer and I would recommend anyone who can afford this and needs a new laptop to go with this one. 5 Eggs because while It has problems I knew they were going to be there because all computers in this category have them and this one does it better.
Pros: Great build, amazing performance, and decent thermals. About 90% of this laptop is perfect! Fans aren't too bad, but on Turbo mode they're out of control loud lol.
Cons: In my case, I lost the silicon lottery. I'm only able to UV -0.75v and be stable. My thermals as a result stay in the mid 80s when on load, averaging around 75 to 78 depending on the loaded task. Idle or productivity I hang out in the 40s 50s. My previous laptop was a great laptop (Razer) and I was able to hit -0.165v UV and the thermals were better hanging out at 70s with load. So a paradigm shift for me.
There's some minor build quality issues like the trackpad has extremely weak clicks on the corners of the trackpad and the flex on the plastic underneath the monitor/screen is pretty bad.
Overall Review: I'm happy overall! 4 stars just because I lost the lottery
Pros: Very fast and amazing laptop, thought I ordered it with 2 512GB NVME M.2 set up in RAID storage but arrived with 1 great TB NVME M.2 and was pleasantly surprised for the opportunity to have the ability to upgrade the laptop.
Cons: Keyboard has some keys that stay the color blue near the directions and backspace keys, even with keylighting shut off. When with other colors it mixes them to make a new color and there appears to be a different screw on the back side of the laptop I thought could maybe be the cause? The right side shift keys sometimes does not work unless pressed almost too hard.
Overall Review: I would highly recommend this product to anyone since I use it for work and school and it does everything needed, just want to make sure it is in top notch condition since I plan on using it for years
Pros: Good seller and an excellent laptop.
Overall Review: ASUS customer service is horrible to deal with. Be prepared to lose from 6 to 12 months of the advised warranty term.
Pros: powful graphic card
Cons: noisy in some models，but can be changed into silent model.
Pros: nice out looking
nice refresh rate
Cons: over heating during idle
monitor start blinking during gaming
Overall Review: Maybe this time is an individual event. I still have confidence in ROG.
