is this for cable or for dsl?

Well, both.  Like I have an Ethernet cable coming out of my cable modem and into the router.  The CATV cable does not plug directly into the router.  The CATV cable plugs instead into the cable modem (then Ethernet into the router).  I really do like the router.  Like whenever I want my kids to get off their laptops and iPhones I just put 192.168.1.1 into the browser address bar, see the router and click buttons till I cut them off.

Will this work ok with Windows 10?

The router will work fine. The problems come from the drivers for your pc's network card. I have a Dell Inspiron that is 3 years old and I could not find a driver that would keep a consistent connection.
The router is excellent and operates with many types of operating systems.

Is this compatible with an apple computer and window 7?

Yes we have been using this router with Windows 7 desktops and a Macbook Pro for a couple years now without problems.  Also connected are a Vista laptop, Windows XP laptops, Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360, Apple iPads, and an HP Color LaserJet.

Can this product be use with kindle fire hdx and Netflix?

It can be used for Netflix and I couldn't answer for positive about kindle as I don't have one but I certainly wouldn't see why not.  I have this router at home, use it for Netflix every night.  As long as you have a decent Netflix device you'll have no issues, I use a sony bluray with wifi and no buffering, all hd.  I have an ipad that works good through this netgear.  Smartphones as well.  Good coverage, I use wifi for Pandora through my phone in my garage/shop. Good connection at least 50-60 feet from router.  Have had it for over 2 years now with no issues.  Easy setup and control panel.  I recommend.

how fast is this router?

I haven't performed formal speed tests, but it is fast enough to handle everything my family does on a regular basis including streaming, Netflix, browsing, etc.  I do have to cycle the power about every month, but other than that it seems to work fine for my needs.

how do I find out the password for the wifi? is it written on the unit?

Type: routersetup dot com into your browser. The default login is: UN- admin PASS- admin or password.

Then select WiFi setup and there should be the default password and the option to change it.

When purchasing NetGear products do they offer any period of technical support without a charge?

Yes they do, i'm not sure exactly how long it is for but i think its something around 30-90 days. You have to register the product to activate the warranty but it is pretty easy if i remember.
