Is this product disc-installed or download installed? I need disc-installed in order to specify which components will be installed. I must be able to install WITHOUT MS Outlook as it conflicts with resident NOVELL Groupwise software.

My Version is disk installed.  I do not use Microsoft Outlook on that computer.  The computer runs Windows * operating system which has a terrible user interface compared to Windows XP.  Next time consider Apple.

It is compatible with Windows 8.0 and 8.1 with one major caveat.  Windows 8 comes in two different versions, Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT.  The big difference here is the hardware that they run on.  Windows 8 RT is designed for tablets and phones that do NOT use Intel processors, and thus it creates compatibility problems.  That is why Windows 8 RT comes, out of the box, with Office installed.  However, like anything else that is "free", it lacks all of the features of the version of Office that is sold separately.

Yes, it comes with a disc. It also includes (as expected) a license key that is good for 3 individual PCs or laptops. This is a really affordable way to get Office for the home. While it is slightly dated, there is no such (as far as I can see) equivalent for Office 2013. In Office 2013, Microsoft is encouraging you to rent (subscribe) instead of purchase outright. It makes great dollar sense for them, but not for anyone else.

My computer has Windows 7 professional, will the Microsoft Office 2010 Home & Student work on this computer?

The only thing I can tell you is that on the booklet that comes with M.office 2010 home & student, it states Office 2010 is designed to work with users of previous versions of Microsoft Office".  I know that doesn't really answer your questions about Windows 7 Professional, but they included  site that you can go to with support questions but I'm not able to type it in.

What is the difference between Office Home and Student and Office Home and Business? The cost is very different and I only see one package difference.

well, firstly, do you own or run a business?
and I believe the main difference between the two are format and templates.
"Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 gives you the tools to help you manage home, homework and business.
New and improved email, scheduling and social networking tools keep you in touch with clients round the clock. 
Clarify and manage your financial data with new and improved analysis tools, charts, templates and color formatting in Excel 2010"
whereas the student gives THREE licenses, and a more basic layout. both will do what a word processing bundle needs to do.

I DO have a business, and student works for both me AND my wife's needs as a student.

I have not seen a time limit on the use of the software at this time.  I have used the software over 1 year.

Yes, this package contains one disc and one "3-installation" activation key, which allows it to be installed on three different computers. Apparently, Microsoft keeps track of the number of activations with the product key, and blocks it from activating after the third installation. Note that, if your computer is pre-loaded with MS Office, this key will activate the same four programs listed on the box, without need to use the supplied disc (same three-time activation limitation applies).

I think you mean a yearly 'subscription' price and the answer is no.  When you buy it, you do not pay anything afterwards.  A word of caution though: if you like Outlook mail client, you're going to be disappointed because it is not included.  I found out later after I bought it.  I ended up buying Outlook 2010 separately.  If you want Outlook, you might consider getting Office 2013 Home & Student edition. I think that it includes Outlook .

No, But! Office Home & Business & Office Pro has it. If you are a business go for it with those two versions. If you are using just to manage your e-mail and calender just use Windows Live mail        (Use to be known as Outlook Express) which comes with your operating system if your using Windows 7 or 8. You can also download from Microsoft if for some reason it's not in your system (Free). Note: Live Mail is fast with very short steps and allows you to to direct e-mail from web sites and direct link to Skype. Last, stay away from versions 2013 & especially 365 at this time, Microsoft will be supporting 2010 for at least the next 8/10 years.
