It is "forever".  That is to say, as long as you are using a computer operating system that supports this product in the future and you retain the license key and the installation file, you could have this for many years to come.  No extra charge.  I also don't charge for run-on sentences.  ;)

will this work normally on a gaming rig with only a 32"  2560x 1440 gaming monitor attached?

If the gaming rig is running Windows 10 or Mac OS, then yes. The resolution of your monitor is mostly irrelevant as long as it isn't an old VGA CRT or something. It will not work on Linux distribution powered gaming rigs, Sony Playstations or XBOXen.

Resolution Minimum Requirements
Windows OS: 1280 x 768 screen resolution (32-bit requires hardware acceleration for 4K and higher)
macOS: 1280 x 800 screen resolution

Is this a DVD or do you download a binary and use the key?

It's not a DVD.  It is a key card you use to unlock a binary you download.

No, only Word, Excel and PowerPoint however it does not expire at 1 year, it really never does but Microsoft will end support 10/14/2025.  If you are looking at a Full Version 1yr Subscription you should look at Office 365

You do not have to be a student to purchase or use this version. It basically refers to what the bundle includes.

If my computer dies or needs upgraded, do I have to purchase a new Office program, or can I install this one on the new one?

Depending if the license key is linked via a Microsoft account for the windows 365 and 2019 versions. If you reset your computer or storage dies you may reactivate windows office on that same device. Also if you're switching computers you can contact Microsoft support to transfer licenses to another device.
