Does this cam have a built in microphone?

Yes this camera has a built in mic. It works fine if you are in a relatively quiet place, but the mic tends to pick up everything in the background. If you are in a noisy place then the mic will be transmitting the vast majority of the extra noise.

Cord is 4 1/2 ft.  So you would need an extender USB cord if you need it longer.

what is the unversial attachment base made of ?

It's actually made from multiple metal joints that are coated with rubber. It's very nice actually. You can bend the joints however you'd like and they easily stay in that position with no 'flex-back'. Because it's metal it also gives the whole thing a nice weight to it, so it stays fairly firm where you place it.

How good is the picture in the dark?

I haven't taken any pictures or video in the dark as of yet. From what have seen on other live camera feeds and online it doesn't appear that bad.

This is a USB Video Class device, so it should at least be supported by OSX's generic UVC drivers.

On a Win7 system you do get the (not particularly useful) 'Microsoft Lifecam' software, which may or may not have an OSX equivalent; but the camera itself should work without incident.
