Is this a full version or an upgrade version?

Good question. I had to ask the same think before I bought it. This is a full version of Windows Seven. Now, 3 things you may know already, but i will say it anyway: It is not like the retail version because 1. It does not include both the 32-bit and 64 bit versions. 2. It does not come with any Microsoft support. and 3. (if my research is correct) It can be renewed as many times as you need it to be... as long as it is the same motherboard. This is useful if you tend to do stuff that has a potential to mess up your installation and have to re-install it. (like me)

i almost forgot to ask, is this going to be a dvd i would be purchasing or a digital download?

Newegg sends an authentic Microsoft DVD with the hologram on it and the activation S.N. on the package.  I don't believe Microsoft allows for digital downloads of their OS's

During installation, Windows 7 Ultimate asks if you are upgrading or doing a clean installation.  However, I am unsure as to the results of the upgrade option because I did a clean installation.  But, it does ask, so I am assuming that you all your programs and data would be safe, depending on compatibility with the new OS.

It means that's the maximum amount of memory (RAM) that the operating system can support. This is do to the amount of different "combinations" of numbers that can be represented with 64 bits for memory addresses. What the operating system can support and what your motherboard can support though are very different. Currently the highest a consumer motherboard can support is 64 GB of memory, far less than the maximum for Windows 7 Ultimate, so you really don't have to worry about this constraint right now. Maybe some servers can support more memory than 64 GB, but at that point your using a different operating system for servers. Anyways, hope this helps!

I did not receive a disk with my purchase.  Instead you get a card with the download address and an authorization key.

Full version.  So it doesn't require a key from another version of Windows.  However this is an OEM version.  This means that you can only install it on one machine and it will not reinstall if you change too many components via upgrade.

what exactly is the advantage to getting this over the regular home windows 7. Why should I spend another $100 on this?

It supports more ram up to 192 GB. If you want to put more than 16 GB of ram then ultimate is the way to go.

I have Widows 8.1.  Can I change to Windows 7 with this product?

I have both Windows 8 and Windows 7 64 bit.  Do not much care for windows 8 as some specialized (CAD) Programs do not work.
I also have problems with Windows 7.  Explorer crashes constantly.  May be a problem with my hardware.  I have not figured that out, but I have Windows 7 64 bit on two machines that are different from one another and explorer crashes on both.  Really not a very good product for me, but what else is there?

can this be installed on more than one computer, but only used on one machine at a Time ?

No. The disc can be installed on multiple machines, however you will need a unique Key for each machine from Microsoft to use it beyond the 30 day registration window.
