By adapter, you mean the wired adapter that connects usb via Xbox to controller, than no, you will not. This will require two double A batteries, might I suggest rechargable, and Eneloop Batteries. Then you will pair it up by clicking the little button next to the LB and the pair button on your Xbox. It should then start to blink rapidly, then slowly, and then stop, and stay lit, thus ending the pairing. If it doesn't work, resync it again.
