Question 1

How does the value for money of the BRBN MINI MINISFORUM MF-UM890Pro motherboard compare to other mini-ITX motherboards available at a similar price point?

Accepted Answer

The BRBN MINI MINISFORUM MF-UM890Pro motherboard delivers solid value at its price point, especially thanks to the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS, which brings strong CPU performance in a very compact form. Its support for DDR5 memory and multiple high-speed connectivity options like dual 2.5G LAN and USB4 sets it apart from many mini-ITX boards that often focus on more limited I/O or older memory standards.

That said, keep in mind this is a barebone system without RAM, storage, or OS, so your total build cost could be higher compared to motherboard-only purchases. Also, the Oculink port requires using an M.2 slot, which means storage expansion might be slightly constrained compared to other boards that dedicate more lanes solely to storage or graphics. If portability and connectivity in a small form factor are priorities, this is a competitive option.

Question 2

Is the BRBN MINI MINISFORUM MF-UM890Pro(0+0)US R motherboard a good upgrade option for someone currently using a previous generation Mini ITX board?

Accepted Answer

If you’re coming from a previous generation Mini ITX board, the MINISFORUM UM890 Pro’s barebone system with an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS offers a strong performance boost, especially with its DDR5 memory support and versatile display outputs like HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4. It’s designed more as a compact mini PC platform rather than a traditional motherboard upgrade, so you’ll benefit from its integrated features but won't be swapping it into an existing build like a typical motherboard.

Keep in mind that this unit doesn’t come with RAM, storage, or an OS, and some ports like the OcuLink require an M.2 slot, which could limit expansion depending on your current setup. If you need a direct motherboard upgrade with traditional Mini ITX form factor and customization, this might not fit that role perfectly, but for a complete mini PC refresh, it’s worth considering.

Question 3

Is the BRBN MINI MINISFORUM MF-UM890Pro compatible with DDR4 or DDR5 memory modules, and what CPU socket type does it support?

Accepted Answer

The MINISFORUM UM890 Pro supports DDR5 memory modules and uses 2 x 262-pin SO-DIMM slots compatible with DDR5-5600 RAM. It does not support DDR4 memory. The CPU is an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS, which is soldered onto the board rather than using a traditional socket, so you won't see a standard CPU socket type like AM4 or AM5.

Because the CPU is integrated and this is a barebone mini PC, upgrading or swapping the processor isn’t an option, but you can freely upgrade the DDR5 RAM within the supported specs. For best performance, choose high-quality DDR5 modules that match the 5600 MHz speed to take full advantage of the system’s capabilities.

Question 4

What display outputs does the UM890 Pro support for connecting multiple monitors?

Accepted Answer

It supports quad display output through HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB-C/USB4 ports.

Question 5

Does the UM890 Pro come with memory and storage preinstalled?

Accepted Answer

No. It is a barebone mini PC, so it comes with no memory and no storage installed.
