Pros: Fast read rates of 25MB/Sec. Write rates are 14MB/sec.
In comparison, my older expensive ATP 2GB drive gave similar read rate and slightly faster 18MB/sec write rate.
After research was concerned with copy performance of small files. Happy to find it is significantly faster than the ATP which in turn was leaps and bounds faster than some of the free after rebate 1GB/2GB drives I have.
Cons: Not the fastest drive for write performance; but a good balance given the capacity and price.
Overall Review: This drive will likely be my last USB flash drive. USB is limited to around 30MB/Sec and not much point getting a larger drive until some new standard comes out (USB3?).
Pros: What I like about this drive is the solid metal case, large capacity and very good transfer performance. You can store a load of files on this drive. Price was very good for its capacity.
I tested this drive with HD Tune 2.53 and liked what I saw:
Min Transfer Rate : 25.0 MB/sec
Ave Transfer Rate : 25.1 MB/sec
Max Transfer Rate : 26.2 MB/sec
Access : 0.6 ms
Burst Rate : 25.0 MB/sec
CPU : 13.0%
The transfer plot appears as a flat-line with very little variation. Best I have seen. Other thumb drives I have are much noisier and slower.
The lanyard included with this drive is a nice perk which I greatly appreciate and would like to see continued. I prefer to carry my thumb drive around my neck instead of in my pocket where there is a risk it might be pulled out with the wallet and lost (happened to me once).
Cons: No real cons. The orange activity light is bright. The cap can be easily lost.
Overall Review: Very satisfied with this thumb drive.
Owned it for a week and cannot comment on long term reliability. The two I ordered have worked fine for a week.
Drive comes formatted in FAT32. Need to format to NFTS if you are transferring large files > 4GB.
When using your thumb drive on Windows, make sure Windows recognizes the device after it is inserted into the USB port. Sometimes this takes a little time. After you are done with the thumb drive, make sure you use the safe removal utility (located as a green arrow over a drive icon in the lower right hand of the toolbar) to safely remove this drive from the USB port. Windows will complete its activities on it and then tell you it’s safe to remove. Failure to do so can foul up the drive.
Pros: Small size, large capacity, competitively priced, very fast file transfers, and has a snug fitting cap.
Cons: I really wish the LED was dimmer and a different color. A dimmer blue LED would be much sleeker looking IMO.
Overall Review: I have owned the 4GB version of this drive for well over a year now and it has served me faithfully. I even accidentally washed it (left it in pants pocket) and it still just keeps on ticking. Needed a larger drive for toting files around and making periodic backups of my Playstation 3 data.
Pros: this flash drive is Quick! 10MB/s writes on 25-40MB/s reads 64-bit Vista has dual channel memory.
Cons: "only" 16 GB
Pros: Orange LED version is fast (~14MB writes, ~30MB reads for 64k clusters and larger in ATTO);
Includes a lanyard/strap thingy;
Compact and durable case
Cons: Unless you're willing to either a) roll the dice and hope you get an orange LED version or b) RMA straight to OCZ so they can give you the fast orange version that they advertise copiously in the info on their site,
DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE
The blue LED version is vastly inferior (3-4MB writes max in ATTO) and from all I've heard these are what OCZ is mainly manufacturing now.
I find this business practice to be in amazingly bad judgment, especially since if you look at OCZ's site they have numerous reviews stating the amazing 16MB+ speeds they're getting. I am personally insulted that when I originally purchased the drive I got something far below what OCZ promised. It's simply extremely poor business practice. Don't worry, I'll get it over it someday..
Overall Review: OCZ's SSDs have always been excellent for me. After RMA'ing this Rally2 twice (once to NewEgg, then to OCZ) before actually getting the drive with the stats that OCZ advertises all over their site, I really cannot recommend anyone buy this flash drive unless they are 100% absolutely certain they will get the orange LED version, or, if for whatever reason, they don't care about read/write speeds, OR, if they don't mind immediately RMA'ing straight to OCZ (and paying the $3 or so for shipping).
Again, OCZ's SSDs have always been excellent for me.. I don't know what they're thinking here.. the case is nice.. once you get an orange LED version, you'll be happy..
-slim; no bulky housing that gets in the way of other ports
-'appears' to be faster that my previous usb thumb drives when syncing folders (this is just a gut feeling, not based on any measurable testing)
Cons: After about 3 days of use, the flash drive, or chip, came loose within the housing. The male adapter now jiggles up and down and produces a snapping sound inside the housing. Although I did not treat the device with the care I would when putting RAM in a motherboard, I do not believe I put any stress on the item beyond what normal use would imply.
Overall Review: For the price, I paid $39 at newegg, I'm bummed and wish it was more sturdy. In all fairness, the unit is fully functional despite the jigglyness.
Pros: None. At all. If you get a Blue LED version, it's guaranteed to be a terrible, terrible drive - the worst performance possible.
Cons: Contrary to the specifications, this is NOT the Orange LED model. The only stock Newegg has is Blue LED, and they are absolutely terrible drives.
Write speed is a max of 3.57MB/s, read speed is 5.23MB/s.
The housing is not put together well, with the Blue LED endcap breaking the first time I *gingerly* inserted it into my Sonata II's front USB port.
Granted, super glue would fix this, but, given the advertised Orange LED bait and switch, I have requested an exchange with Newegg. If the replacement is also a Blue LED version, I'll just send it back for a refund. (Orange LED has great speeds, and is actually worth the money, while Blue is NOT!)
Overall Review: Newegg's customer service is excellent. This is only the second time I've had to call them for anything since they first opened way back when. I've used the religiously for all my tech needs, and this is the first time I've actually ever seen them ship a product that differed from what was advertised. Of course, they're trying to make it right, which is why they are undeniably the best, at the top with Ama zon as far as customer experience! Thanks, Newegg! xoxoxo
Pros: This thing is sleek and thin, no problem of having another USB plug and/or device side by side with it.
Speed is very decent, I didn't go as far as to measure it but my guess is that the other estimates on this site are pretty accurate and reflect the reality of it.
Cons: The orange light could light up an entire city.
Overall Review: This is a straight as you can be USB key. Nothing fancy in terms of included features, except a high quality product from the get-go.
