What is the max speed it can handle?

The answer mostly depends on your ISP but this modem can do up 10Gbps with DOCSIS 3.1 or up to 1 Gbps with DOCSIS 3.0. The difference between 3.0 and 3.1 is great. 3.0 uses up to 32 channels down and 8 channels up. DOCSIS 3.1 uses a completely different channel system of up to 10 Gbps which is the fastest speed envisioned today but is not implemented yet. Most ISPs go up to 800 Mbps on DOCSIS 3.0 and 1 or 2 Gpbs DOCSIS 3.1. This modem has room to grow. Further, this modem has a 2.5 Gbps LAN port. Most routers only accept 1 Gbps so again, this modem is ahead of the game.
