IS the operating system preloaded on the SSD?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Windows is loaded on the SSD and the HDD is pre-formatted but I don't believe it has anything on it when you first turn it on.

For people that have had this laptop for several months, have there been problems such as with crashing, hard drive failure and hard time updating windows? thanks

Accepted Answer

No crashes, failures or difficulties updating windows.  Only problem we have had is with the touch pad.  We normally use a wireless mouse with it, but when that is not convenient, the touch pad normally works just fine.  However, occasionally it gets into some kine of strange delay mode where it is pretty useless.  But that has not happened in the last month or two (maybe an update fixed the occasional problem).

Does this actually come with the laptop bag/sleeve as depicted?

Yea it does, it's rather nice.  It has no pockets but it is of a nice quality and will offer decent protection for the laptop when embarking on travel.

Is the touchpad clickable (makes the noise when you press on the pad) and how good is the operation?

To "click on something" (as if you were clicking the left mouse button on a regular mouse) you only have to lightly touch the pad, and it doesn't really make a sound unless you tap really hard. Double clicking is similar, you simply quickly double tap the pad. Now, if you want to "right click" like a regular mouse, you have to press down on the lower right corner of the pad until it clicks. This click is audible, unlike the "left tapping". The cool thing about this pad is that its responsive and doesn't get hot like some touchpads do.

Nope because they wanted to make it light and portable. Thats one of the reasons its only 4.4 pounds. Honestly since i download everything online it didnt effect me, but if it is really such a big problem you can always buy a usb one.

Im thinking about getting this for my son for xmas. Do I need to buy anti virus software or is it already on the laptop?

No you don't need to, Windows 8 comes with it's own, even thought the laptop comes with Norton trial I would say you uninstall Norton and use Windows 8 default Windows Defender. That way the experience and performance of the laptop wouldn't be affected by the Norton trial anti-virus.

How long is the battery life on this laptop for average use?

   I haven't really timed it but it is probably about 90 minutes...maybe two hours.   That is the problem with ALL laptops.  You can only play so long without plugging in. Having said that THIS UNIT IS THE BOMB! SPEED, SOUND, GRAPHICS, COOL KEYBOARD.  It is expensive but if you are going to game, go big or stick to a PC.  If you buy something cheap and slow, why bother.  Hope this helps.

Has anyone encountered any wi-fi issues on this model that the other gs60 models had?

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now, and I have had no problems at all with any WiFi connection.  I've connected at home with Verizon FiOS, as well as in public places (ie Airports, Hotel, Starbucks, etc...).  So Far I absolutely love this laptop... I think the only thing that bothers me is the battery life, like many others have mentioned.

Im thinking about buying this laptop but some of these answers regarding specs are confusing. If anyone knows if the cpu is 4700hq or 4710hq and if the gpu is maxwell or keplar? thanks

Just got this beginning of this month

CPU shows as 4710HQ @2.5 Ghz in windows
Not positive about GPU, but the # of CUDA cores and base clock match Kepler version (1152 cores @797Mhz vs 640 cores @1029Mhz for Maxwell)

So far it's handled everything I've thrown at it, but I was specifically looking for a balance between decent gaming and portability for work and travel.

How hot does it get when gaming?

Like any gaming laptop it will get hot while gaming.  But I am actually very surprised and pleased with the temps that I have been getting while gaming.  The laptop will come pre installed with the MSI gaming center that can tell you your GPU and CPU temps.

At idle my CPU rests between 30-35c which is great, and while gaming both the GPU and CPU rarely go over 63C.  If you were resting the laptop directly on your lap it would definitely feel hot, I would recommend a laptop cooler that you can rest the laptop on while gaming.

I use the cooler master laptop cooler and while I can't say if it actually decreases temps or not I can say it definitely is nice to rest the laptop on if you're planning on using it on your lap.
