I read in one of the reviews that an external monitor must be attached in order for the GTX 1060 to work.  If no monitor is attached apparently it uses the CPU for graphics.  Is this true?  If so, is there any way around this in the driver settings?

This is totally false. These laptops use Optimus to route the nvidia card through the iGPU. The process is mostly automatic (nvidia is only used in games) but sometimes a game may need manual tweaking in the nvidia control panel. In the case of this laptop, the nvidia card is also directly connected to the HDMI port.

How does the 1x1 WLAN card affect the overall performance of the WiFi speeds versus the comparable 2x2 card on the MSI Dominator GT-72?

If you have network drives and you copy large files (like movies) between them, you will notice it a lot. 2x2 is literally double the speed of 1x1. If you are simply transferring files over the net, or streaming movies from network devices, it is just fine. The only "but" is if you have an absurdly fast internet speeds like 100Mbit.

The far majority of internet connections can be handled by 1x1 speeds, but local network connections are much faster then that.

Question 4

So this is MSI's flagship Apache laptop. Then, why is the HDD 5400 rpm? I know there is an SSD, but the specs state that the storage HDD is 5400 not 7200. Even there lower Apache models have a 7200 storage drive. Is this a misprint, or does this laptop really only have a 5400 drive?

That's misprint, it has a 7200RPM HDD
