Question 1

There are a few negative reviews on this product, i am looking it primarily for EvE online and mechwarrior.  And then just basic PC stuff net/youtube etc.., the negative reviews make me nervous to purchase it.  If it will handle those games i would be happy i just do not want to buy a lemon, anyone have a recent experience with this machine?

Haven't tried MechWarrior, but games like League of Legends, Diablo 3, and WoW play just fine on high settings. I've had this laptop for about 6 months and don't have any complaints. I wouldn't try installing a game like Witcher 3 or anything though. I looked up eveonline, and I'd guess that will work since it was released over 10 years ago, it should work fine on this laptop. MechWarrior seems to require a just a little more than Diablo 3, so it will probably be fine, but you might have to use medium settings.

Description states Windows 8.1 OS - specs state Windows 10. I don't want Windows 10. Which will be preloaded?

Mine arrived last week with Win 10 Home loaded.  There might be a way to order directly from MSI and request 8.1 though.

does it have a fan blower?

Yes, it has a fan button on the keyboard which does seem to help, however it is a little loud.  I use it when gaming and from my observations it keeps the gpu temp 70*C or below under stress.  With the addition of a laptop cooler the gpu temp stays more like 65*C or below.

Is this 4th or 5th gen i5? says both. also i'm reading that its not a backlit keyboard?

it says it in name, 4th gen.  and yes there is no backlit keyboard.

Question 5

Does anyone have the sku number of the 8gb ram module installed?  I believe it's a Kingston but don't know which of the 8gb modules offered at Newegg would match.  I'd like to add another to max out the ram at 16gb.  (Would rather not open the case until I'm ready to install the new one...)

There is a free download called CPU-z that will id your ram so you can order the exact type without having to crack the case before you are ready to install the new chip. Search for CPU-z or CPUID in your search engine. I hope this helps you.

This computer has 4 usb  ports. 1 hdmi port. 1 Ethernet port. 1 sd card port and a small D shaped usb style port. I hope this answer is helpful.

is 1920 by 1028 1080p? and is this laptop actually have a backlit keyboard. i am asking these questions because i am looking into buying this lap top for christmas

1920x1028 is a misprint.  The resolution is 1920x1080. I just double checked to make sure and mine is set at 1920x1080.  Also the MSI website verifies this.

Does it have a dvd port?

Yes, DVD multi drive.  It has software that I'm not too familiar with for playing DVD's though.

Is the keyboard backlit? It doesn't look backlit and everywhere else on the web is says it's non-backlit. Please clarify.

Okay, it's actually non backlit. I'm rather disappointed because when I first purchased it said it was. If you're wanting a 
laptop that's backlit this is not a good choice.

Does this laptop come with a second hard drive port?

I haven't opened mine up to find out.  I believe there is room according to MSI's specs.  I would call MSI directly and ask.
