Question 1

Any issues with excessive heat and/or fan noise? I'd prefer the 43VR vs 63VR due to decreased weight but not at the cost of heat/noise.

Mine can literally heat my apartment in an Ohio winter.  Granted, it's a 1br... but whenever I'm gaming, the heater never runs.  As far as fan noise goes.... I've had louder gaming laptops (and quieter)... but under heavy load it puts out a fair amount of noise (and heat)... I can't speak to the 63 though.

Question 2

Can I open the bottom and replace the ssd and/or hdd without voiding warranty? 
Also is a 2.5 ssd compatible replacement for the hdd?

In ultrabookreview dot com's review of the GS73VR, the said that "they said that the warranty sticker does not apply to US and Canada buyers.  In fact, those countries are allowed to perform upgrades as they please, but the warranty will not extend to the new components.  They also mentioned that the serial number sticker can be removed as long as it’s replaced for RMA requests."

Does the keyboard has flex?

the laptop seems to be mainly built from black aluminum, and with no flex when typing/using. Grabbing the edges I can flex a small amount, but this is much more solid then my old gigabyte p34 14"

Does this laptop have the ability to switch to the Intel HD Graphics for power saving? (Nvidia Optimus)

It does have graphics switching and I assume it's Optimus.  Just like my old 750m, I run an nVidia app that lets me override apps to use the nVidia though it usually "just works".

How are the temps when gaming?

Using the "Cooler Boost 3" fan setting, I am averaging around 80C on both the CPU and GPU  core temps in both Overwatch and Rise of the Tomb Raider on high to maxed setting on 1080p. The keyboard itself does not get too hot to the touch, but the underside can get too hot for your lap under intense graphics settings. As far as I can tell, there isn't much if any thermal throttling after a few hours of gaming.

Question 6

How is this laptop virtual reality ready when it does not have enough usb ports to support the occulus rift? Is there a way around this?

I would guess a USB hub would be fine, especially one that uses the USB-c port.

As for performance, I am using a Vive and just setup today.  The tutorial and Blu both worked great.  The Vive only needed 1 USB and 1 HDMI, though, and I connected directly.

Is the SSD a NVME PCI-E drive or a SATA SSD drive?

The SSD on mine is indicated as a Toshiba SATA SSD in the bios and device manager. It's still quite fast, but MSI's advertising of this laptop was a bit misleading, it led me to believe that it would be an PCIe drive, although it appears that this laptop does have an NVME PCIe compatible m.2 slot.

is nvidia running any promos for free games w/ the new 10xx laptops?

Nvidia's running "Free $115 Paragon in-Game value code with purchase, limited offer" now, but it seems you needed to order that exactly in their window and my purchase was too early... (9/24/2016)
