Will replacing the 5400RPM HD void the warranty?  I heard it's easy to do on these skinny gaming laptops..

I've spoken to technical support before and their official stance is opening the machine voids the warranty. Unofficially, the support agent claimed that they are flexible with the warranty in the sense that if you experience a hardware failure that doesn't appear to be from mishandling the laptop, it will be covered. For example, I had a component that needed to be replaced on a GS70 and when I complained about the turn around time for sending it in, they were willing to ship it to me and let me install it myself (faulty ribbon cable for right side usb ports). Later, I had to send it in for a keyboard issue and they took care of it despite the warranty sticker being torn. As for changing the HDD, if you decide to do it yourself, it is very straightforward and you have easy access to it after taking off the bottom cover.

Yes, this is the 1080p panel with the 120hz refresh rate. The GS73 with the 4k panel is not 120hz.

The HDD is very easy, you just take off the underside panel. The SSD is under the motherboard so you would need to remove that. The RAM is also under the mobo.
