yes... make a note of your psu though.. my cx750 couldn't push efficient enough power at "bronze 80 plus"..  Note also that at a good overclock you're going to need 600+ gold 80 plus...   this model overclocks so efficiently.

Have you had any coil-whine with this video card?

NOT A BIT! No coil whine at all. In fact, I have hardly ever heard the fans on it. That sit at 0 rpms when browsing the web and doing simple stuff. In games it's still unnoticeable. Very demanding games MAY make them go 100%, but they're pretty quiet even then! I have a Corsair H100i that gets SUPER loud next the MSI GAMING GTX 980. It overclocks like a DREAM, and it just works so dang well. Honestly I've never spent this much on any PC part in the past. I've never gone "All Out" a GPU. This time I did, and let me tell you, it's worth EVERY penny. If coil whine ever comes from this card it's because it's defective. And that happens to any product from time to time. Hope this helps, you owe it to yourself to buy this thing! Only complaint is that you really can't find any backplates for it. Doesn't bug me because the PCB is black and it looks nice, but some protection from the water cooler above would help me sleep at night.

Can this card use G sync technology in monitors?

Yes.....the card is G-Sync compliant.....and very fast.  You'll just have to get used to seeing only one cooling fan spinning for most uses.  The 2nd cooling fan only kicks in under heavy continual load.  I thought one of my fans were broken until I used the software to turn them both on manually.

I'm currently looking at upgrading my rig, it will be a process but I wanted to start with the video card because I think I have the most to gain from that. Will this card be compatible with my ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 motherboard? I believe as long as it is PCI Express 3.0, I should be good right?

Yeah, it should work just fine as long as you have a PCIE x16 slot. I'm not sure if PCIE 3.0 was available with 60 series chipsets, but it should work just fine in a PCIE 2.0 slot. You'll probably bottleneck this card on PCIE 2.0, but it will still work.

probably a stupid question, but since this is my first build --- this one card alone will run triple monitors, is that correct?

Yes, it is possible, though it is not recommended to use just a single card for triple monitor surround. The ideal setup for that is three cards. But this has support for multi-displays. Check Nvidia's website for their surround setup guide if that is your wish.

is the dvi port dual link or analog? asking because im getting a 144hz monitor and to enable full 144hz i need a dvi dual link connector.

It appears to be Dual link based on the Pins.

i used a site to check what a dual link looks like, since i had no idea what you were looking for.

it does have the 24 pin-holes.

Yes, most modern GPUs like this 980 should be able to process 3-D images.

These cards do not come with an SLI cable.  I purchased two on launch day.  The only cables it comes with is the power cable adapter

Does this model come with a backplate?

No it doesn't appear to. I have ask this question a lot about MSI's 980 TwinFrozr. I will say this, it has a very nice, very clean looking BLACK pcb, so no backplate was not an issue for me on this one. If the pcb has been that ugly redish brown color that it was on the 770... well. Lets just say I would have been extremely disappointed in MSI. Hopefully there will be a backplate option in the future though, because I like have the extra support.

How many watts should my psu have if I were to get this gpu?

If you plan on overclocking it aim for 600+ @ at least 80 gold plus rating.  The higher the wattage the more future proof you are.. .
Make sure you have enough Amps.  Default setup requires basically 14.3 amps just for the vcard.  Remember your motherobard and maybe other components use +12v amps as well.

suggests to have +12v 42A system total, or more.  The more you overclock the more amps you'll need.

Avoid the Corsair CX series.  (they are bronze too) They squeel or hum when overclocking past 1400.  I went through 3 750watt cx-m before giving up and getting a supernova 1k G2.
