Should I get this or a 580 for gaming? They are both the same price albeit the 580 will need a power supply. They both have 512 cuda cores. Thanks

I will offer my criteria for choosing a Video Card; I check online charts, and read the Newegg reviews. They can be very helpful for avoiding products that do not fit your need(s).

Both cards being similar, I would definitely go with the newer platform.

Further, the MSI card is built on a new technical architecture providing tangible advantages. (check it out online) And well received by the tech & gaming community.

Is this card faster than a gtx 650 ti boost?

Pound for pound the 750 is faster (Maxwell vs Kepler GPU) AND uses a little less power to do it. I might recommend the Ti for a little more but I have both GPUs (750 OC and 750 Ti) and the difference is marginal; both are the same GPU, same amount of GDDR5. If you're not in the price bracket for the newer cards (950, TiTAN) you'll find that the 750 is capable of running most of your Steam games at a very respectable resolution and framerate. With MSI's tools overclocking and adjusting your cooling curves is a snap, and it's military spec with solid capacitors for durability. There's faster cards but for the money you're not going wrong here.

why is there so much confusion on dvi? the picture shows a port labeled dvi-i. i thought that port had 1 horizontal connector surrounded by 4 smaller pins. according to the picture, wouldnt this be a dvi-d?

Good catch. I have on on hand. It has a DVI-D. One horizontal WITHOUT the four smaller pins.  Wikipedia has a great breakdown of this with pics.

What are the power requirements for this card?

None other that the wattage it uses from the motherboard.  The are no external plugs on the card to supply power to like many cards have.

If your HP Pavilion has a PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot available on the motherboard, then it will probably work.
This card does not have any extra power connectors, it is powered by the PCI Express slot. If you want to know the exact power requirements, then look at the specs.

Will this work on a older motherboard that doesnt support UEFI bios? Ive read some problems when people bought the EVGA version

It doesn't have to do with UEFI...that's strictly a secure boot. A lot of legacy motherboards lack extra power connectors or sufficient PCI bridge speed to handle the card at full power. If your motherboard has the two connectors for PCI and is relatively new UEFI support shouldn't matter as I have my UEFI disabled and it works great (dual boot...UEFI doesn't always play well with Linux). If you do strike out a UEFI motherboard for your chipset is probably 1/2 or so the price of this card. If too worried get the eVGA version with twin fans. Good luck!

I don't understand the question? It is one of many models in the 700 series, which is one of many series of video cards made by Nvidia. In what sense do you mean universal? Will it support any monitor? Will it fit in any computer? Will it support SLI with any other Nvidia card?

If I buy a gtx 750 it will likely be this one. I have a desktop with an FSP 300 watt power supply running a gtx 550ti with a 6 pin adapter. It runs just fine, even overclocking to 1ghz. That being said, would this also run with the same power supply? the recommended psu for the 550 was 400 watts. thanks

I did a system build last year using tis card.  I went with the EVGA 100-W1-0430-KR 430Watt PS.  It handles it just fine.  My son uses it to play PVZ Garden Warfare.  Works just fine.

It's fairly long. If you have a mid-tower case you should be fine, it will just be a tight squeeze.

I have a 27" monitor that displays 2560x1440, does this card display 2560x1440?

You bet! I bought this card to handle my 27" Qnix QX2710LED, 2560x1440 and it works great. I also hooked up my 42" LG flatscreen TV to the other port on the card.
