Folks mining ethereum and other cryptocurrency coins are buying all of them.  Sellers that haven't raised prices like Newegg are sold out.  3rd party sellers on Newegg are selling them at exorbitant prices because they can.

No it doesnt, if you want a lighting varient go with a non-referance cooler style board partner card

The 8GB Samsung ram was only only available in 4GB reference models upon launch due to a shortage of the 4GB ram at that time. There is plenty of 4GB ram available now by other ram manufacturers and that's what you'll get in these.

What is the memory type when viewed in GPU-z? Micron? Hynix? Elpida?  Samsung? I understand they could be different for different runs of this card, so could you please post yours?

Carefully examining the photos, it doesn't appear to have a backplate, as I have the RX 480 with a backplate.  I also assume if there would be be a backplate, they would explicitly show the back side of the card with the backplate as a selling feature, and list it in the item description.
