Some Z790 Intel supporting MB's have limitations when trying to install M.2 drives along with more than one PCIe 4.0 expansion card. This can cause a reduction of a GPU from x16 to x8 and even the inability to use additional PICe x16 slots on the MB. Is this the case with the MSI Z790 Gaming Pro   MB as well? I don't see anything specific to such limitations in the manual from MSI's web site. I need to use a higher end 4.0x16 GPU along with at least one 4.0 x8 video capture card, a Thunderbolt 4.0 expansion card along with two m.2 NVme SSDs.

I do not believe it is an issue with the motherboard. I suspect it is because the intel cpu only has 20 pcie lanes. I know that amd has cpu's with more pcie lanes. I would guess that as long as you do not exceed the 20 lanes simultaneously that everything you install should work as described. I have 2 nvme-m2x4 drives installed and a video capture card and a 3060 gpu and it all works very well.

will this work with 14th gen intel right out the box?

No, you need to do a factory BIOS flash (which fortunately this Mobo makes fairly simple). You'll need to reformat a thumb drive, download (from an existing PC) and place the updated BIOS file (not folder) on there, rename the file to MSI.ROM, plug into the dedicated USB flash port, and press the Flash button.

I recently purchased this motherboard along with a I9 13900KF and 64 GB of DDR5. The BIOS will not allow me to enable XMP or change my ram speed. The ram speed is set at 4000 and my ram supports 6000. Any help would be appreciated?

I had the same issue with my board. I updated to the latest bios and hit the XMP-1 button and my 64 gig of 6400 went from 4800 to 6400.

What's the best cpu for this Mobo?

I am using an I7-13700k, initially I thought I would be happy with the on chip gpu. I was not, I think I will eventually get an I7-14700kf, as my system is much faster after I purchased a separate gpu. I think if you want the best performance from this motherboard, you should purchase an f or kf version of the 12th, 13th, or 14th gen chips.

It doesn't have Thunderbolt natively so, NO. But you can still connect other USB streaming devices and cameras. I got this board mainly for dual ethernet.
