He might not know about designing headphones but he has a understanding about music, sound and audio. Anyone could pay a designer or a company to design the device according to one specifics and liking. That includes comfort, sound definition, features, colors, etc.
Finding a perfect pair of headphones is like  finding a good bottle of wine.  You need to do some testing and find what you like and don't pay too much attention at what others like.
Many times paying more does not translate into a better device.  For the price, this headphones are very good, comfortable and it does perform  and has features found on devices that cost 3x as much.
