I've been using it with Windows 7 64-bit for the past year; works great. But as far as I know, it's not a touch screen. Check the specs to make sure.

Is this a matte screen?

Yes, it is a matte screen.  I have never noticed any unwanted reflections from room lighting.  It is a very nice monitor in all respects.  There is no printed manual which would have been icing on the cake.

What is the lowest total height that is can reach? My monitor space is limited to about 17.5"

Does this product accept audio over HDMI from a cable set-top box or DVD/BluRay player?  More accurately, will the speakers play the audio?

Short Answer, Yes it will play embedded audio via the HDMI input. Long Answer; If your intent is to use this with a cable box or BR-DVD player the quality of audio will vary. This is due to a few factors:
+The speakers in the display are small and rear firing (fine for general PC audio, not so hot for movies (of course this also depends on what your personal subjective threshold for "good audio" is))
+The display is stereo and sending it a surround sound mix may cause you to loose surround channel information. Of course this also depends on how your particular source handles the EDID information it receives from the display.
+With these type of sources the reality is that they can also vary depending on the actual content they play (e.g. depending on which show (CATV) or DVD (BR-DVD) disc being viewed). I am sure you have experienced this in the past with just flipping between channels on your TV where some channels or shows sound better or louder or in stereo or in surround as you flip through them.

Is this monitor compatible with a MacBook Pro?

Yes but you will need a mini-DVI to HDMI converter cable, available at Mac stores.

Is this model compatible with a Mac Pro 1,1?

Our late 2008 macbook connects to this monitor using a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter purchased at a Mac store, but made by a third party.  If your mac has this type of video output you can connect it to this monitor. (Oddly, there appears to be no such thing as a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter.) Note that earlier macs did not put sound through the mini-DisplayPort so to connect the monitor speakers you would need to use an audio jack in addition. The monitor has run well for us since we got it about six months ago. It looks sharp, though we are not heavy graphic users. No video games, for example.

Dell or NEC, Ford or Chevy, Granny Smith or Braeburn... Better to compare specs and pick a model that suits your particular usage than to buy based on name brand alone.

What are the dimensions of the monitor?

The monitor itself is 22 inches wide by 14 inches high.  The height of the stand is adjustable.  The monitor is about 3 inches thick with about another 3+ inches of thickness in the base for a total of about 6and 1/2 inches.  The base diameter is about 9 inches.

Every review or article about this monitor says it's a great business monitor. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy it for my home? I gather the colors are excellent, it's fully adjustable, it has a lot of inputs and it comes with a 3-year guarantee. I don't play computer games so I don't need a 2MS refresh rate. Is there any reason why someone who writes emails, watches movies, and occasionally has to work from home on Excel and Powerpoint shouldn't buy this monitor? A lot of reviews I read of other monitors that are aimed at home use say that they break after 8 months. I want something that's good quality and reliable, but I don't need the absolute best as I'm not editing movies or doing Photoshop work.

The colors, contrast, resolution, and brightness adjustments are all excellent. This is good for watching movies and anything else where you want to see what you're doing. I have 2 monitors side by side; this one and a good Samsung (Sync Master 940bx). They are both connected to the same computer as a dual-monitor display, so I can drag windows from one monitor to the other, and have a window part way on both monitors. When a line in Windows Explorer is highlighted, I can hardly tell on the Samsung, I have to squint and move my head around to see it. It's is washed out. I have no problem at all seeing the same line on the NEC. In Word or Excel, things highlighted in light colors have the same effect.
