Question 1

I am trying to determine which is better for my use: N300 or N600. They are so close in specifications, just dual band on N600. But, do I need dual band? I have five smart TV's, one gaming system, two LT's and one desk top computer. Will the N300 work just as fine or is it best to go with the N600? Trying to buy now. Any thoughts?

I'd start by saying I'm knowledgeable about computers generally but certainly not a network technician. I do not believe you need dual band, but it's a nice option. I have a similar set up with a main computer, four apple tv's and various wireless tablets and laptops. Dual band can cause some confusion as some devices cannot stream across bands, ( I.e. An ipad on the 5ghz network can't stream video to a Apple TV on the regular network) however it's nice to have the two networks when running multiple devices that can select the faster network band.The router also allows you to enable dual band or single, so if the option is not significantly more money Id say get It and experiment whether it's useful to you.

Will it work with AT&T DSL and Netflix? I have a desktop PC using AT&T DSL. Also Sony BDP -S3500 DVD/Blue Ray player for my entertainment center. Can it hook up to those?

It will not work with DSL, only cable. It has a built in cable modem.
It does however support any Wifi/ethernet device on the inside.
 I had a lot of problems with mine, probably due to Time Warner issue
With upgrading their network.
 I sold it and bought the ASUS RT87, a bit pricey but works great!... Love it!

Does this modem/router handle phone line?

I do not have a phone line connected to my C3700 N600, so I cannot answer your question. What I will say is that this modem/ router was listed by Time Warner as acceptable replacement for the modem they rent to customers and they do provide cable phone service if you choose it.

Question 4

This has not proved to be compatible with Time Warner. I am frequently logged off. It is a night mare. Is there a solution?

I'm on Time Warner and it is working fine.  Every now and then a thunderstorm will knock out the power and it doesn't always re-boot as it should.  Power cycling the unit always fixes the problem.  You might want to try putting it on a UPS so it is not affected by power outages.  That's the only thing I can think of.

why does this only have 2 inthernet connections...what if I need more....is there a way to add?

At first, I thought the lack of a larger ethernet hub in the router was an issue.  I haven't really found this to be a major issue now that the router is in use.  The wifi connection speeds and streaming capacity of this router have made any need for additional ethernet connections pretty much moot.  If you really need additional hard-wire ethernet ports, you can find small ethernet hubs that will allow you to add 2 to 10 additional ports, starting at $49.00 new, retailed from multiple vendors including NewEgg.

Hi all, I am a small business owner. I want to know that can this modem be used on Verizon FIOS ISP?

This is specifically for Cable Modem providers.  For FIOS, the hand off is typically Ethernet.

Any Router with a WAN port would work best.

Does this device support telephone? Comcast phone to be specific?

no it is not designed for that but I used to have Comcast phone as well until I bought Ooma and switch to this modem wifi como I couldn't be happier I don't pay for Comcast for the modem anymore I don't pay Comcast for the phone service.my advice to you would be to switch and do what I did if you are in contract with Comcast.   Ooma  is by far the way to go,  I highly recommend it. I got my Ooma on Woot but you can get deals at other places as well,  the speed of this modem is blazing fast the dual band wifi is great and works wonderful with my republic Wireless cell phonethat's the reason why I got it

I am told I need to get the NetGear c3700-100NAS to work with my timewarner cable. Is this a different product?

This works with TWC. I went from 35 to 48 download speeds with the SBC modem they lease you to a best of 66.43 mbps download with this one, setting it up was no problem with TWC, took less than 5 minutes!

My ISP is Cox cable, in Henderson, NV. We 'rent' a crappy modem from them that has a coaxial input and supports phone service as well.

1. Is this modem compatible with Cox as an ISP?
2. Does this modem/router support phone service as well?
3. How many wireless devices will the router support simultaneously?

1. If Cox uses DOCIS v3 or v2 it will work.  Most likely they support the use of either or.  The v3 is your faster speeds available from most ISPs these days.  I checked your area and they are using DOCIS v3, but you have to subscribe to Premier services in order to get faster speeds.
2. It does IF the device is not part of the Cable Modem.  Most ISPs are bundling all of their services in one device so they can ensure QoS, Quality of Service.  You can certainly ask their customer service department if they have other options for phone so you can own the equipment.
3. According to most reviews, I see it will support 200 simultaneous connections to the internet.  That being said, this is a home router, I tend to stick to less than 15.

Lastly, if you are using the Cable Modem All in one from COX, this is the best way to go.  The rental I know may  feel expensive, but you are covered if you have any issues/outages/damages.  If you are interested in faster speeds, contact their support department for a DOCIS v3 rated CM/router.
