my current comcast modem contains a telephone hook-up. can I connect my telephone line to this unit?

Ironic that you should ask this.  I was a bit surprised when I realized that I would not be able to connect my phone.
Fortunately, we don't much care... but the answer is NO, you cannot connect your phone directly (there is no jack).

On the other hand, our connection to the net is now at or above our 'paid' rate of 20 MBPS (I am measuring speeds consistently between 19-21; before we were getting 14-16).  The coverage of our home is also impressive.

Does this unit allow me to connect my gaming pc directly to the router without having to go wifi?

There is four ethernet connections that will allow you to connect up to four PC's. You will not have any problems connecting as long as you have a long enough Ethernet cable. Excellent cable modem by the way. Well worth it.

Is this device and eMTA?

Sorry, I do not have voice with my plan.  To be honest, I have never seen this request for eMTA before.  For what it is worth, I will try and answer anyway (with some Googling before hand).  The modem does not have R11 phone jacks built into it.  I SUPPOSE an eMTA would need to be purchased or rented separately.

Safety from hacking? Can this be individualized with a router password, as well as a network password?

Yes, there are quite a few options for security. You can set a master password as well as addingg guest network passwords for both bands. You can assign access by the mac address of the devices you authorize and then hide your ssid and hide the entire network. Works great for me on Comcast.

Will this unit work with Cox now even if they have not certified it for their use?

I heard that it doesnt, i use comcast, so i wouldnt know, but if you call cox, they should be able to tell you if they support it yet.

Unfortunately I learned the hard way that this item does not have a landline phone port. I had to plug my phone into my original modem and then use this new one solely for the internet

How is the WiFi signal on this modem? I live in an appartemnt complex  where channels are packed. Used the ARRIS that TWC provides and they are the worst modems/routers I've ever used.

I bought this modem/router because I heard that Comcast didn't make a good one.  And it works wonderfully.  This one and Motorola's have the best highest approval rates.  I researched many reviews.

The reason I selected this one instead of Motorola's is because I recently upgraded my internet speed and it can handle it.

Will this work with Comcast Xfinity network?

Yes, it's much better than "fastest in home wifi" router comcast gives you, which really is a piece of crap.
