Nothing but GREAT 9/27/2011 10:37:48 AM

Pros: Works just fine with my AT&T (in an area formerly hosted by Bellsouth) ADSL. I get 4-out-of-5 bars with the wireless from 35 feet away and through a wall. A CD is included that set everything up almost entirely automatically. The router security is superb, getting a full-stealth rating at GRC.com. Tweaking additional settings is extremely easy, and the routers settings are pretty full-featured.

Cons: I was hoping that it could also function as a toaster oven, but any bread I apply to it is remaining sadly un-toasted.

Overall Review: Bought it locally for a discount even cheaper than Newegg. I see a lot of bad reviews -- apparently these things aren't selling well? Maybe the quality control is poor, and too many defective units are getting sent out?

I don't know. Mine works perfectly. Thanks, Netgear!

Lightest Brick Ever. 9/1/2011 11:16:01 PM

Pros: It finally let me online to write a negative review about it...

Cons: I've had this router / modem a few months now and have nothing but trouble with it.
Poor range. about 15-20 ft is all you're going to get with this.
No Firmware updates. No QoS support.
Constantly dropping and reconnecting. I seriously have to reconnect every few minutes. Very rarely have I had a solid connection for more than a couple hours, even with full bars. In fact as I type this I'm worried it won't post. I've become very familiar with copying anything I type within my browser.
My older WRT54GS is still blazing through the internet!

Anyone who has rated this router more than one star/eg must be overly excited because have just recently learned that the internet exists and they're "sorta" using it with this piece of junk.

It will automatically prioritize ALL of your bandwidth to a random device such as a stupid WiFi printer leaving you crawling.

As soon as I can afford a better modem I will putting this thing down Old Yeller fashion. The most satisfaction I'll ever g

Overall Review: Save yourself the money and avoid this thing. No matter how good the price is.

Verified Garbage. 7/13/2011 3:43:08 PM

Pros: uh. It works sometimes?

Cons: According to Qwest my modem dropped the connection something like 14 times in the past 24-48 hrs. Aside from straight up not working, it can be quite slow.

Overall Review: Why when I go to any store, does no one carry just a modem? I already have a router, I needed to replace the modem. Instead I have to pay twice as much for a combo unit I don't need. I'll order something from Newegg and return this garbage to the home of cheap plastic garbage where I got it, WalMart.
It claims it's compatible with Qwest and the settings even match, yet a phone guy told me they don't typically support Netgear.
I've had routers from them too, because when you're a college student, saving $10 over Lynksys can be important, not that they're so great. I'd love to hear a manufacturer's response to why their products are so consistently garbage. Why do they all run intermittently, and hot?
and in general: Why is it so hard to find a decent home networking option to begin with?

Horrid Product 12/14/2010 5:46:17 AM

Pros: Sets up fairly easily.

Cons: Where to start? I have another netgear router/DSL combo that is much older, worked great up until about 5, 6 months ago (age, wear and tear, etc). Picked up this thing, figuring it would be more of the same. WRONG! I have been messing with tech support for a while, the connection is extremely unstable (I'll be connected for 4 hours, then it will randomly drop the line for no reason, and do that 5-6 times in a row, then establish a new connection). Tech support 'claims' it's something with my ISP, yet their older product works just fine! Internet searches reveal MANY people having this problem. sounds like a hardware/software issue! DO NOT buy netgear if you will end up needing any sort of assistance! They can't think outside the box. I just wish I had not got the 2 year product replacement!!

Overall Review: Did not buy on newegg, but figured I should spread my experience around.

Pain in the a-- 8/3/2010 6:38:20 AM

Pros: I'll give Netgear this much - setup is easy for the basic settings. The included CD takes you through the setup procedures quickly and painlessly, automatically detects your DSL connection and applies the necessary "basic" settings to connect, and does a good job getting your wifi connection going. Wireless works reasonably well, with decent range and speed.

Cons: Apparently it has a problem with AT&T - and they refuse to give you any help, as they don't support anything other than modems they provide. It keeps dropping the DSL connection. I had to lower the MTU size to get it to work at least a reasonable part of the time. It still requires shutting off and restarting at least once a day to recover the connection. It runs very hot. I have a small fan blowing on it continuously in an attempt to keep the temps down, and that seems to help as well.

Overall Review: I'm thinking of opening it up and putting some heat sinks on the major chips. At least that might help keeping it from burning itself up! On the other hand, I may just junk it.

Works Great 7/20/2010 7:14:06 PM

Pros: Setup was easy. Did it manually with ISP username and password. My Qwest 2wire died after 2 years. took 15 minutes including getting my wireless wpa/wpa-psk set up and all wireless computers running.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Is running faster than the 2Wire.

Works great 7/1/2010 7:42:19 AM

Pros: Fast DSL, fast wireless. The status LEDs have a little reflector under them, which facilitates checking the status from odd angles (if you have it placed somewhere funny).
Config interface is straightforward and well-organized.

Cons: Um, not much. Can't run dd-wrt. The two status lights for DSL confused me at first; the little logos on them aren't super explanatory. The left one (looks like twisty lines....some sort of Gaelic design?) means a basic DSL connection has been negotiated. The right one (globe) means an actual session has been established, allowing access to the intertubes.

Overall Review: 1. I'm not the biggest fan of Netgear, historically. Used to have a Netgear router that was always overheating and going zombie. It ended up burning itself up. That said, I have been quite impressed with this thing, and it may have changed my mind about Netgear.

Took me a while fighting with this thing to get it connected to my Qwest service. I was just about to give up and say it was not compatible. I decided to go back and double-check my VPI/VCI settings (under ADSL settings), which I thought I had set correctly. Not so! After correcting, I quickly got my connection, and all is well.

Very easy set up 6/6/2010 7:51:34 AM

Pros: Extremely easy setup and a fast solid connection (so far).

Cons: none

Overall Review: The Motorola DSL modem that came with my AT&T DSL died yesterday. Got this at a large office supply store. Literally, all I did was plug in the appropriate cables, run the setup CD and that was it. I was finished in less than 15 minutes and its performance is great. I bought it together with the Netgear USB wireless N adapter and they synced in minutes using the one touch buttons. Totally painless.
