Pros: Extreme range and signal strength. Easy to set up. Looks very cool.
Cons: Bigger than most routers.
Overall Review: It's a good thing this unit looks good because you're not going to disguise it out in the open. It's very easy to set up in both modes and works perfectly for me.
Pros: Super easy setup, Very fast loading in config screen, lots of options for configuring the built in wireless adapters to you personal needs. customize WPS pin. comes with a stand for vertical installation. built in usb nas and dlna server, As well as Tivo support. Pretty rock solid extrender. DD-WRT support is planned. just be patient. Kong is very busy atm and waiting on samples to get started.
Cons: bug in firmware! you cannot disable 2.4ghz mode at all in AP mode? very odd. I'm sure it will be fixed fast tho. This is minor and I'm sure it will be solved.
Overall Review: A good plus with this extender is unlike most extenders I have tested in the past the default is not 192.168.1.1. so you don't have to spend hours trying to get it to comply with your network or it causing problems with your gateway addresses of all your other devices. I have tested some that just would not comply no matter what you set them or your other devices to. in short they were garbage. This is definitely a good buy for the price. If I need more I will definitely buy more of this model. Very satisfied with the performance and the setup.
Pros: "Fast Lane" eliminates interference caused by repeating a 2.4GHz signal as other range extenders suffer from. Signal from router to extender can use one frequency (ex: 2.4GHz) while extender to devices can use another (ex: 5GHz). Simply flawless signal. No more dead spots or waiting for content to load after upgrading from a cheap Netgear WN300RP. Slick design and can be oriented vertically or horizontally and looks really cool either way. Permits hardwire access point configuration with ethernet cable.
Cons: Can not be used as a router. Antennas floppy unless tightened fairly firm. Setup wants you to create a Netgear.com username and password account for no apparent reason. Firmware update failed the first time, worked the second try.
Overall Review: I can not be happier with the signal strength and quality. This is the ultimate range extender / access point, but it doesn't make sense that it can't be used as a router since it has all the features of a router such as parental controls and time limits. Oh well. "Fast Lane" is so good I went ahead and disabled the SSID of the primary router. After over a month of use I have never once had a to wait for something to load or try to refresh due to packet loss.
Pros: * You can stand the unit upright with a detachable stand or you can add the included rubber feet to lay it flat. I have mine on top of our entertainment center lying down flat so it is completely out of view. It worked great with my Linksys 802.11ac router and 7 port D-Link Switch. It also looks quite sleek and modern. * 802.11ac format and gigabit hardwired ports. The 802.11ac protocol is so much faster and I wonder why it’s taking so long for it to become the standard? Strengthening my 5GHz signal was the main reason in setting this extender up and it is doing an excellent job at it. *Signal strength is amazing as you can see from my tests in the “other thoughts” section below. I wanted to increase the signal strength of my network in the weakest parts of my house, the TV room and Kitchen. Of course placing this range extender in the TV room did the job but the amazing part is how strong its signal is back at the far ends of my home such as the computer room where my main router is located. * Easy set up. You basically just choose if you want to set up this unit as a repeater or a point of access then connect it. It took me less than 5 minutes until I was up and running. The setup is done in your web browser and was all quite simplistic. * The router’s information is on a convenient slide out card built into the router. This is a nice touch by Netgear allowing safe storage and easy access of this information to the consumer.
Cons: * I did not run into any significant cons during the setup or use of this product. How nice!
Overall Review: I set this router up as a point of access rather than a signal repeater as I already had Ethernet cable running from my current router downstairs to where I was going to place this range extender anyway and I would rather broadcast from a strong Ethernet connection than repeat a weak WiFi connection. The below tests were done on my Galaxy Note 3 smartphone using Netgear’s free WiFi Analytics app to measure the signal strengths and speeds in various locations. Because of the great signal strength throughout my house that this range extender provides, I am considering simply turning off the radio on my main router and using this Netgear extender exclusively as it has solved my main issue and provides so much more. As an access point device, buying this range extender is a no brainer and would not hesitate referring it to my friends as a good solution for extending their networks. As a signal booster/repeater I can see no reason it would not be a great solution and work as advertised. My experience with this product has increased my opinion of the Netgear brand. ----------------------------(My Router 5GHz)____(EX70005GHz) -------------------------------Signal%-Mbps_____Signal%-Mbps Computer Room---------100%----263________95%---117 TV Room--------------------71%----292_______100%----433 Living Room----------------64%----117________97%----175 Master Bedroom----------64%----234________64%------40 Outdoor Camera----------42%-----58_______100%-----175 Kitchen----------------------28%-----27_______100%-----292 Master Bathroom---------55%---234________84%-----117 Upstairs Bathroom-------60%----175_______100%----175 Guest Bedroom---------100%----234_______100%----234 Averages:------------------58%----182________93%----195 . . --------------------------(My Router 2.4GHz)__(EX70002.4GHz) -----------------------------Signal%--Mbps____Signal%-Mbps Computer Room---------100%----52______100%------52 TV Room--------------------91%------5______100%------96 Living Room---------------100%-----5_______64%--------6 Master Bedroom----------64%------5_______71%--------5 Outdoor Camera----------95%------5_______86%------26 Kitchen----------------------68%------6______100%------39 Master Bathroom---------80%------5_______95%--------5 Upstairs Bathroom-------88%------5______100%------19 Guest Bedroom----------100%----39______100%------26 Averages:-------------------87%----14_______91%------30
Pros: I used this extender with a couple different routers but mainly wanted to see how it performed with the Netgear Nighthawk router. I have to say that everything worked flawlessly. Setup is a breeze thanks to the handy-dandy interface that pops up immediately upon logging into the device. Multiple choices for function of this device, from an actual extender to an access point. Also, the USB port has great access from my Mac and PC. Data access is fast and easy. I cannot say enough good things about this extender. If your wireless signal is spotty or weak this little device will save you a lot of headaches. I FINALLY have wireless signal in my garage! I don't know if anyone reading this has read any of my other reviews of wireless routers but I have yet to ever have a router that reaches from the studio where I have my cable internet connection and devices. I still cannot access the wireless signal if I have this device in the studio but moving it to other areas of the house closer to the garage finally extends the signal far enough that I can connect from outside the house.
Cons: The power plug is too big! The "brick" is on the plug itself and makes it take up too much real estate. If that is the only negative to this device, however, then I believe that is forgivable.
Overall Review: This is a very attractive-looking device. The Netgear logo lights up with LEDs behind it, it is sleek and shiny. It will make a nice addition to any stack of gadgets.
Pros: Sleek design, Small enough to hide, yet big enough to be one of the most powerful WIFI devices I have played with. Very strong signal with a very respectable Ping time. (low Latency) Dual Core CPU helps it keep up with network traffic in real time, even heavy traffic does not phase it much. With 12DB Antennas the 5g range was very usable even at 120 feet away. Hit the WPS button on yours and it, and again for the 5G and your running, right out of the box. (this ease may differ from router to router) Plenty of setting functions for Guru's to customize, and they say DD-WRT will be coming soon to it.
Cons: Some might not like it's size, but they will love it's function. Sorry, that's the best I could do for CON's.......... It only comes in black........ (hows that?)
Overall Review: I set this up Directly next to my Linksys AC1900 Router just for testing it's range. Speed was tested with an I phone 6, using the Speedtest APP. I did this simply to test the range for a "Usable" signal. At 10 feet, Maximum down and upload speed to the internet was 55Mb/s down and 5.6Mb/s up from both the router and the extender. (5g) At 30 feet and threw 4 walls (in the house) the Linksys (with the 12DB Antennas) got 42mb/S down and 3.2Mb/s up. While the Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender Was still getting 55Mb/s down, and 5.5Mb/s up.(5G) At 60 feet thew 2 walls (outside the house) the Linksys dropped to 22Mb/s and 2Mb/s, while the Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender held strong at 50 mb/s and 4.8Mb/s. (5g) At 90 feet still on 5G the Linksys dropped off during the test, and could not be tested (Still had the 12DB antennas) and the Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender Ran a 25Mb/s and 2.3Mb/s on the Factory Antennas. At 120 feet (5G) the Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender would not finish the test Either. 2.4Ghz was still connecting solid and ran a 12Mb/s and 1.1Mb/s. SWAP 12DB ANTENNAS TO THE Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender!!!! Now at 120 feet threw 2 walls the Netgear Wireless EX7000 Extender on 5G gets 22Mb/s and 2.2Mb/s. At 90 feet 5G increased to 44Mb/s and 2.8Mb/s At 60 feet (5G) it ran the full 55Mb/s and 5.5Mb/s on the 12DB High gain Antennas. AFTER testing it right out of the Box I tinkered with settings, and checked for and downloaded updates. It's functionality did not increase or decrease afterwards. If you are a Novice You will love this thing, Set the WPS up Before plugging anything in to it, and don't update the Firmware unless you are having issues with it. If you update the firmware incorrectly you can ruin the device (basically don't do it in a thunder storm, or unplug it while your doing it) or you will turn it into a paper weight. Some Antivirus programs can also wreak Havok on Firmware updates. It is Best to Contact NetGear prior to doing so to make sure you have a good environment for doing it safely. You will love this product, I sure do.
Pros: Hello. My name is Chris. I am technically inclined, but I like to take the approach of a person reading reviews that doesn’t understand all the “geek speak” and make it understandable for the person who doesn’t have the time or patience to study up on that kind of stuff. I don’t explain ‘benchmarks’, I explain what the item did/does for me plain and simple. If that’s like you, then this review should be very helpful to you. . This range extender does EXACTLY what it says it does!!! EXTEND THE RANGE!!! (See more thoughts). . Zero packet loss, Zero “dead spots” and content (upload and download) never hesitated or lagged in any way over a month’s period of time either during my ‘home’ OR ‘business’ testing grounds (See more thoughts). . LOOKS freakin’ cool. Looks like a Transformer head or something LOL. . Price point is very good for what the EX7000 offers and actually does. . Got me a case of beer and a steak BBQ!!! (See more thoughts). . .
Cons: The price to me is a little high, BUT considering the absolute PERFECT STEADY signal this extender gives off (and the current price-point of range extenders on the market) this device is moderately priced and is worth every single cent. . . OTHER THOUGHTS: . I used the NETGEAR EX7000 range extender in 2 completely different environments for my testing purposes; . 1] HOME USE: . I hooked this up to my home first just to get familiar with the setup and connections (which was a simple as a WPS button). I already had a plan to test this extender in a 5000 foot square warehouse environment of which my neighbor utilizes here near downtown Las Vegas. I personally work like maybe 2500 feet from my home (less than a half mile) and from my work I could not only see my network but once connected had a 5 bar connection on my smart phone!!! LOL WOW!!! I was impressed at this point. So over a couple of days I traded phones with my wife and also took 2 different notebooks to work just to test the EX7000 against those devices as well. Same story for all the devices. LOL NONE of the devices even knew they weren’t at home as far as they were concerned. EVERYONE was like, “How are you on the net???” and I was like, “I am connected to my home router.” LOL, those whom understood what I was saying didn’t believe me… They instead decided to believe I was using my cell phone as a hotspot. HAHAHA!!! . 2] BUSSINESS USE: . So for the business use side of this story I interviewed my neighbor to be my Guinea Pig because I knew he had a large warehouse and also use handheld wireless devices to update back to the system to keep track of inventory because he had asked me in the past about quality routers with a nice range on them. I decided to give him X-mas early this year and presented him with the EX7000 AC1900 for testing purposes, and if he liked it, I would make him a deal. During my interview as to his business environment, he explained his people spend a TON of time walking back to the office area just to get a signal to be able to send and receive data to their handheld devices. He had many complaint from workers saying to get off the forklift and take a walk or simply have to make several “out of the way trips” near the office to update inventory when on foot was tedious and tiresome. So I told Jim I MIGHT have a solution to his router range limitations (I mean after all, I WOULD be improving business production for him right??? What is THAT worth???) So I helped him set up the EX7000 and walked him through all the basic stuff he needed to know and voila, he was up and ready for business. We walked around the warehouse and held the handheld device up to the wall at the farthest corner of the warehouse and could still send and receive data perfectly fine (and quite quickly according to Jim).
Overall Review: So after an hour of testing with him, I let him be for over 3 weeks. I interviewed him once again for my follow up of this review this week, and he couldn’t thank me enough and started spitting numbers about production enhancement etc. So I just asked him point blank if the new NETGEAR EX7000 range extender was worth a case of beer and a steak BBQ all on his tab, and of course that is what we settled on. We are to do our BBQ next week while jamming on some online Call of Duty together LOL. . Just because this is a review, please don’t take my words lightly and think I just favor a product because it is sent to me. I have a job to do; and that’s to be fair and honest about the product for future prospective buyers. I am just like you, a Newegg customer. And to me, Newegg reviews are golden. So I am not about to tarnish Newegg reviews OR my good name by telling you something is good when it is not. I hope this review has satisfied your purchasing inquiry needs. Thank you for reading. And thank you Newegg for allowing me another great opportunity to review.
Pros: The EX7000 is easy to setup and configure. The options are network extender where the EX7000 connects to your existing network via wireless. You can extend both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz at the same time or you can use the fast lane option which allows you to choose one band to extend the wireless network and use the other band to connect your client laptops, tablets, etc. I chose to connect the EX7000 to my wireless network using the 5GHz band. The extender connected at 1300Mbps I was then able to connect my laptop to the extender using the 2.4 GHz band. Once connected in this manner, I was able to get transfer rates of 25MB/s. That is enough bandwidth to watch full uncompressed 1080p movies. I also used the EX7000 as a wireless access point to test out the range. I enabled both the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands. Netgear lists 700mW amplifiers on the specs page and they did not fail to deliver. The EX7000 provided a 25% increase in the range over my current dual band access point.
Cons: The only issue I ran into was when connecting the EX7000 to a tri-band router. I had to turn off SmartConnect on the router to get connection speeds greater than 300 Mbps. Smart Connect is a feature of tri-band routers that combines the two 5GHz channels into one SSID. Once that feature was disabled, the EX7000 connected at 1300 and everything worked as expected.
Overall Review: First time setup was simple. I plugged in the EX7000 and turned it on. The extender SSID appeared and I was able to connect my laptop to it. The configuration web page presented the Netgear Genie web app. The Genie web app presents an intuitive interface and lets you choose how you want to setup the device. Network Genie displays the status of the EX7000 on the homepage. You get an easy to understand picture of what bands are being used, the speed at which the extender is connected and what devices are connected. The Netgear Genie also allows you to configure the media sharing options, file sharing options and printer sharing settings. I was able to plug in a USB hard drive and stream stutter free movies to my connected laptops and tablets.
