Can wifi be disabled ?  I am only interested in the wired functions.  thanks

The WiFi canbe disabled under the wireless settings by going to the wireless profiles and selecting the default profile and clicking on the disable button and the status should change to disable. I also use the ACL function to only allow the MAC addresses of the devices I want to connect and disable the SSID broadcast so people cannot see it easily. Netgear also makes a non-wireless version of this unit.

Is there a mounting kit? I would like to mount this on a wall

Not per se, but the bottom does have slots allowing you to wall mount it with hardware you supply.  You can mount it with any of the four sides facing up as the slots are cross-shaped.

Does it have "Guest" Wifi capability?  I want secure internal wireless, plus a wireless SSID to offer publicy.

Accepted Answer

It has the capability for multiple SSID's that you can set up, so technically, yes.  It is not as easy as some of the "home" routers out there - you'll have to set up a VLAN for the guests, which you can restrict however you want, then you can assign the guest SSID to it.

Question 4

How do I turn off my wireless capability?  My ISP modem has wireless and I believe the two are creating conflicts.

I would shut off the wireless broadcast on your ISP's modem, the NetGear is a stronger component by most cases. Either that or just skip using the NetGear Firewall / Wireless Access Point / Gigabit Switch all together if your ISP has provided you with an all in one solution.

If I use this on my home network, and bridge my Comcast modem. Can I VPN into my network from the outside? How would that be setup, with Open VPN?

This would not have a open vpn service.. you would need to pay for that.. Your better option for your home network is to get an old PC and install sophos UTM on it.  It will Give you free everything..   I would very much compare it to any sonicwall or Cisco firewall out their as features go.   Even has a user portal where the users can go and download a exe that will install the vpn with all the  config files for them.. i use it at my home an love it.. only downside is their is no support aside from a community

Does this have smart technology QOS for VOIP phones?

We disconnected these devices on our network, the throughput was terrible!  Our Voip phones would constantly drop calls and we had to put our old router back.  VPN was terrible too!  We have a 35mbps connection and our VPN maxed out at 3mbps with these devices.  Even in local tests using a gigabit Ethernet connection between the two devices WAN ports we maxed out around 3-4mbps, with no encryption even enabled.  There are some issues with this device and it can't route at very high speeds when VPN is enabled. Spent weeks with support going back and forth and there was no resolution, they just don't have a lot of processing power so we just took them offline and put our old routers back in place.

I have seen so many bad reviews for this product, what should I buy instead that has the same features Giga/sslvpn/firewall/wireless/etc?

I used mine for business and it failed slowly. First by just working sporatically and just not right. Which made replacing it a difficult decision. No one could tell me specifically it was not working, but everyone had a hunch. I purchased the low end Cisco router product for a couple of hundred dollars. It was way easier to install than I imagined. Made my network faster and more reliable. Still going strong. Didn't buy it from Newegg. They don't sell it.

What is the term ology for white and black listing incoming IP Addresses.

Also does this product support white and black listing incoming IP Addresses?
