How hot does this get when in use?

It gets warm but nothing out of the ordinary.  I would be sure to install it so that it gets air circulation.  Don't bury it or put it in an unventilated box.  This is true of almost all electronics.

Question 3

I have a 16 port Linksys Switch right now that I need to replace. It has an Internet input connection from the Modem and 16 Switched outlets that are routed throughout the house to connect to whatever Device that requires Internet connection. I do not see the Internet connection on this NetGear 16 port Switch. What am I missing here?

it plugs into port #1. most switches auto select the internet on any port.

How would this a $80+ be any different that 2 - 8 port switches for $32?

Depends on specs and network design/use. 
This switch may have more mpps, and handle full gigabit loads compared to the 2 smaller ones. There is also some advanced specs for QOS, ect, that the small ones may not have.
 Specs are not too important if you are just using it for a small home network.

Also, Switch hops are not good, and need 2 power outlets.

Keep in mind you will loose  ports if you daisy chain. You will use 3 ports for trunks which gives you 13 usable ports

Can I configure Vlan's on this switch??

No, this is a switch without any router functions.  There is no setup to this switch.  Just power it up and plug in your Ethernet devices and you get a LAN.  You could use this switch in addition to a router to hook to your VLAN; but this switch is not doing anything special for your VLAN.  This switch is just a switch.  The Auto Uplink Technology that this switch can do has to do with not needing crossover cables.  You can hook a computer or another switch into any port and the Auto Uplink technology will determine which device you plugged in and provide the crossover feature in the case of a switch connected to a switch.

No. It's just a layer 2 switch. 
If you want a firewall you need to buy a router of some kind.

Where would I buy the mounting brackets for this unit? I have a Netgear FS524 that is 13" on a 24U that came with the mounting brackets that I don't think will work with this unit.

The GS116 is meant to be a desktop switch and not rack mounted. You could purchase a rack shelf to put it on or look into the JGS516 which is a rack mountable 16port Gb switch. Although, the JGS516 is almost twice as much due to it being a 'smart' switch instead of an 'unmanaged' switch.

I have a Netgear 10/100 16 port switch. But my internet is now 150MB service but I only get about 93MB once it goes through me switch. If I upgrade to the Netgear 10/100/1000 16 port switch, will I be able to get higher internet speeds?

First of all, in this response, bps = bits per second, Bps = Bytes per second.

The swicth fabric of the FS116 is 3.2Gbps (~ 320MBps).  Each port is limited to 100Mbps (~10MBps).  The switch fabric is fast enough of serving all16 ports working simultaneously. Your limitation is not the switch fabric but the link speed of each port.

The GS116 switch fabric is 32Gbps. Each port can link up to1000Mbps only if the device can connect at 1000Mbps, and you will gain. Otherwise, the device will connect at 100Mbps and you will not see any difference from the FS116

Can this switch be wall mounted. Does it have the mount holes on the bottom?

Yes it can. It has the mount holes on the bottom. I believe it even comes with the screws to mount it.
