is the casing made of metal or plastic?

Plastic. But I have installed many of these units when you just need to have an extra few ports and it seems very reliable and seems to handle heavy network traffic. The old metal ones used to have an issue with the power cable getting loose. This new plastic one is solid and the power plug stays in nice and tight.

What is the cord length of AC adapter?

Fairly short but about normal for these devices. I'd say its about three feet.
