Question 1

This GS208 switch is described as a gigabit switch, however, in the comparison chart listed, it is noted as having 8 10/100 ports. A contradiction that needs clarification.  Should it be 8 10/100/1000 ports or is this not a gigabit switch?

The Netgear documentation shows the GS series is Gigabit and the FS series is "Fast Ethernet" aka 10/100

The GS208 is definitely gigabit.  NewEgg needs to fix their table.

Question 2

Does this model have the on-off switch on the side (left, when facing LEDs)?

I purchased 2 of these in 1 order. Both have a power switch on the left side.  It is a slide switch that is extremely hard to operate which suggests to me that it could easily break.  I will not be using the switch.

Question 3

Can you slow down each port to 100 to deliver a more consistent streaming capabilities?  Or is this switch fixed to whatever it decides to do?

This is an unmanaged switch. There are no configuration settings at all. The port speed is whatever is auto-negotiated.

Question 4

I want to use this to extend the range of my wired LAN throughout the house by placing it on the 2nd floor with a home run to the main gig switch in the basement. I've been out of networking for a while, so I don't recall if it is a 2-switch or 2-hub limit between ends. Anyone able to clarify?  Thanks

Switches don’t have the same limits as hubs

I currently have a maximum of four hops in my 
network (five if you count the routers internal switch)

However, the maximum data rate between the switches will 
be limited to 1 gigabit in each direction.

Being that it is a true switch, yes, it should. I have a Netgear Nighthawk router and when I connected the switch, I did have to login to my router to identify the switch, but that was very easy to do and the switch works great.
