does this router work with dsl?

More than likely it will not work at all. You'll plug it in and discover that the firmware is corrupt. Google r-4500 corrupt firmware and you'll see what I'm talking about. But if you happen to get one that works it will work with dsl with the proper modem.

There were three versions of this router released over time, v1, v2 and v3. Only v1 and v2 can use DD-WRT. Does anyone know which version this refurb unit is?

This is none of the above. It is the r4500 which is a discount, big box store knock off of the WNDR4500v1. Keep in mind that the v1 is considered end of life by Netgear. You can hack it and trick into thinking it's a v1, but either way no new firmware updates for it.

Anyone who has owned and used thisvrouter for at least 8 months?please let us know if it is still working for you?

I've only had it for a month, but it is working well so far. The range is better than the older n750and the connection hasn't dropped at all.
