Can I use this product to extend my WIFI signal for my PC?  It states for Mobile, so does it work for PCs?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it will work for that purpose - despite the word "mobile" it is basically a simple b/g band Wi-Fi extender. It has a web management interface if the simple configuration is not enough to get the wifi adapter working. Its all in the included manual. I will warn you that it may not work with all models of wifi routers even Netgear. In my case it would connect and work for about a minute then drop the connection. Ultimately I returned mine to Newegg due to this issue. Their are some good reviews/tutorials on You Tube.

Yes and no.  It won't actually improve the performance of the TV, but it may help boost the network speed that the TV is connected, which in turn, may help the performance of services like Netflix.  For example, if your Tv has a poor connection to your network, Netflix or another streaming service may need to buffer or freeze a lot.  Adding this device will help boost your wifi, allowing your tv to have a better network connection.  The downside is you can expect about a 20-30% drop in network performance.  So if you don't have high speed internet and you add one of these to your network, you could potentially have slower speeds than you started with.  In turn, if you have high speed internet (i recommend at least 5mb) and your TV is almost out of range of your wireless router, then I would recommend buying a booster like this.  If you TV already has almost a full connection to your wireless network, this wouldn't do you any good.

Will this work with any wireless router, or will it only work with certain routers?

We are using it with an older Netgear wireless router that supposedly does not support boosters and it works great. Cisco routers can be touchy about communicating with non-Cisco devices, but if you are using any other brand of wireless router, I believe the Netgear WN1000RP-100NAS Wi-Fi Booster will work just fine for you.

I need to extend my wifi connection in my home. There are some dead spots in my home and I want to eliminate them. Will this Netgear do this?>

Work damn well....from what I see. It creates a different network but it's stable and grabs the originally network well. Not only does it create the separate network but I thnik it actually boosts the original too, but not sure. Only know that I cannot get my original WiFi network when it is not plugged in, but when it is, I can connect to the mirror network it creates but also the original. Works like it wasn't even there.

My environment:
- Condo, 2 stories, original modem downstairs...computers upstairs with this WiFi booster sort of in the middle. of the 2nd floor.
- Many other WiFi networks on my building... normally count 10-15 other WiFi networks in the area....no interference problems
- I do not play PC games, but I do stream videos and transfer large files...works great.

I would most definitely recommend this to others, worked better than I thought it would =/

Will this work with an Actiontec GT704-WG from Verizon?

I'm not sure I can answer your question. I know that I use it to repeat the wi fi signal from my Charter Cable internet using a Netgear wireless router. It basically provides me with an internet portal for my desktop Mac that had been getting a weak, iffy signal. It works well for that application  as a bridge between the desktop and the router. I can't speak to your Verizon application. If that's a wireless phone you're talking about, I don't think this is what you want. If it's a wi fi internet, then probably it will work for you.

where to install the wi fi booster?

I have the Wi-Fi booster plugged into a wall outlet inside a far bedroom over the garage. This is just within the range of my router in my makeshift office on the other side of the house. This boosts the signal and allows access to internet in my small guest house 20 ft from the garage. I estimate it has extended the signal a little over 50 ft through a couple walls. Probably farther outside the guest house but I don't walk around the yard looking for Wi-Fi so I don't know how far.

cannot get the password to be accepted.   It also will not let me unistall so I can start over.   Is there a way to start fresh?   I have a UBEE router for mid-continent

Yes.  Just reset the device, it'll go back to factory defaults and allow you to start the process over.

The password for the device should be the WPA/WPA2 password associated with your wireless network.

But doing the above will still satisfy your needs, and you can just rename it the same as you had before the reset, all devices will see it and reconnect as long as the password stays the same you won't have to reconfigure anything on the clients.

Obviously if any settings do change (new password for example) you will have to reconfig all your clients too.

I looking to purchase this booster for our restaurant. My question is if there are a large amount of people that connect at the same time will it effect the booster in any way?

Yes, but like most wifi devices the higher Traffic the less fast it'll be but I have seen it perform fine when 25ish people were on it. But the speed on this little thing is best when near the router so just be aware of that.

I see this has an ethernet plug on it and it boasts that you can use it as a bridge to you xbox, PS3/4, Smart device (TV/DVD/BD players) but my question is can I run an ethernet wire to where I want this and use that as the uplink for this? I have router in back of house and want to put this in the garage to extend the wireless signal for our smartphones and laptops to be able to be used in the front of the house.

If you have a wireless router in the back of the house all you need to do is give this a AC plugin where it can still pick up good wireless signal and it will broadcast to the rest of your house. This is exactly how I am using mine. You can even name it what you want so for mine I used the same wireless name but added EXT at the end so I would know which one I was connecting too. Once you train your devices they will switch to whichever one has the best signal.

I bought this last year and it helped boost the signal when I was outside in my yard.  However, the Internet speeds were drastically slower.  What, exactly, is the Mbps rate of this device?  I searched and searched, but could not find the answer.

Greg,

It could be the side effect of all repeaters.  The Speed will be at 1/2 the speed of the Wi-Fi type, in your case b, g, or n (on the 2.4GHz rf band).  This is because it uses the same antennas to transmit to and receive from the router as it does for the device.

If the slowdown is worse that 1/2 the speed inside, It could be some kind of electromagnetic interference created by anything that has a motor or uses electromagnets (old CRT monitors and TVs).  It could also be heavy RF channel usage that effectively jams your wireless device.  When outside, does your device see other WiFi in the area?  If so, try changing the settings on your router to use a different channel on the 2.4Ghz band.
